Inafune: Capcom Has Trouble Collaborating with Western Developers

Posted on Wednesday, September 21 @ 11:48:17 Eastern by

Dark Void and Bionic Commando, both Capcom collaborations with Western developers, did not fare well in any territory, in part due to infighting says ex-Capcom developer Keiji Inafune via Joystiq:

[It's] very, very simple: The publisher was Japanese and the developer was foreign. Even inside Japan, when you work in two different companies, they always blame each other for any small mistakes, so that's pretty much what happened in those two gamesblaming each other.

When I was making Dead Rising, I told my staff, 'Don't ever blame the other guys. Do your best, and just keep doing your work'... [now] it's getting back like beforeblaming each other.

I'm kind of hoping that someone will come forth and say, 'Okay, I'm gonna take over from here.'

It's rare for a Japanese developer, even an ex-developer to be so candid and forthcoming on his opinions on his prior employer. Maybe it comes from a little bitterness, but he's got a Mega-sized point.

I made a account because this specifically pissed me the **** off. My sister's husband who was the environmental artist of Dark Void told me personally that they created a Multiplayer for DV. They had it finished and a few bug problems (biggest one was the main menu froze) when they told capcom they were almost finished the pushed the date 3 weeks early for release and said to get rid of the multiplayer. In essence either capcom is ****ing over them selves or they want to **** over other DeV's so they feel better about them selves they are ****ing up some where, and now like we're expriencing with Nintendo with diminished returns of the whole 3-DS thing and the constant remake (even lazy reforge of super marior 64, starfox 64 and zelda occurina of time) people are gonna get tired of it and just stop, but for cap com its resident evil and street fighter. Seriously they need to come up with more originality, well all companies need to including taking a plung into the unknown.
