LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Is 16 GB of Memory Enough? NO. 32 GB Is.

Posted on Tuesday, October 25 @ 05:00:00 Eastern by

More and more developers are calling on console manufacturers to include more random access memory in their hardware. id Software and more are pointing to memory as one factor putting PCs far ahead of current-generation hardware.

iBUYPOWER announced today that they're exemplifying that factor by being the first PC builder to offer 32 GB of Memory on their Intel Sandy Bridge systems. Multitasking, gaming, and Windows 7 SuperFetch tech will all receive major boosts in boot times and loading:

The amount of memory in a system significantly impacts the user's experience, this is especially true with gaming systems. The option to build a system with 32GB of memory ensures iBUYPOWER customers will have a positive experience with our PCs and the reason we wanted to be the first system builder to offer it.

I can't say you'll need an SSD with that kind of memory in your system. Console makers will really need to step up their upcoming hardware if they're going to match the kind of machines you can get from the likes of iBUYPOWER.

We've been working with these guys on something special for GameRevolution's always-on reviews. Keep your eyes on GR for more soon.

32GB is an absolute waste for a machine meant for gaming, or pretty much any other activity a regular person may do on their computer. It is not a matter of more is better; it is a matter of having enough, or not having enough. For games, even now having beyond 4GB (along with a video card of 1GB or so memory on it) will give no increase in performance for any game except maybe one with terrible memory management. Also I hope you were joking about that SSD comment, this is volatile memory you are talking about.

I have 16GB, and honestly it's mostly for e-peen value. Nothing I use this machine for comes close to needing that much memory. I can be running a game on one screen, have the internet open on another and be playing a movie and streaming it to my PS3 and it still doesn't come close.

pretty sure the only thing that could come close to chewing up that much memory is non-linear video editing......
