Is Resident Evil 6 Still A Survival Horror Game?

Posted on Monday, July 2 @ 17:34:59 Eastern by

Capcom Summer Jam is a thing and it happened. It happened in a place called Japan. That's why the video above has lots of Japanese commentary over it. The event was open to the public and Resident Evil 6 got a heaping helping of on-stage time.

Watch as Leon S. Kennedy explores a dark area! SPOOKY! Watch as he slowly opens doors! OOOOOH! Watch as he-- OH SHIT WHY ARE THOSE ZOMBIES EATING THAT WOMAN?!?! Help her Leon you bastard! Help!

So, does Survival Horror still have a place in the Resident Evil series?

RE4 with those bad guys chanting. I wouldnt say scared but spooky? Plus hearing those chain saws fire up was always an "OH FUCK" moment.

One word: regenerators. You can hear the damn things breathing from so far away you nervously check every corner for 10 minutes before you finally find it

Oh yeah, their breathing was extra freaky especially with the music playing.

In my opinion Survival horror went out the window when they switched to the over the shoulder view.

I don't even think Resident Evil was ever scary. I mean they nailed the survival part in earlier games, and had an entertaining cheesy horror movie atmosphere, but aside from a couple jump scares here and there the series was never actual horror in any way.

I was actually impressed. I honestly thought it looked a lot scarier than RE:5.

Its not frantic survival horror like classic RE or Silent Hill, but the co-op looks solid like it was in 5.

I'm excited for it! (but not the stupid "6" logo lol)

The last RE game scared me at some points. Revelations was a masterpiece considering the amount of **** they have shoved in our face.
Anyways they explained that RE6 willl try to blend three different genres

Resident evil stopped being good, and horror the minute Shinji Mikami left.

I heard in a gameplay video that Leon's gameplay will be like this (duh), and Chris' gameplay will be more action-packed.
