Japan Buys Almost 7 Times More 3DSs Than PS Vitas

Posted on Monday, January 2 @ 11:26:37 Eastern by

Japan, why are so fickle? Don't giggle, looking shyly away, putting your kimono sleeve on your lips. I know you speak English too.

Only one week after the PlayStation Vita sold more than twice as many units as the Nintendo 3DS (252,380 versus 114,509) in Japan, the Media Create numbers have completely flipflopped. In fact, Nintendo has kicked Sony in the balls.

The Japanese folk have showered Nintendo with the gift of 482,000 units, but have only purchased 72,000 PS Vitas for the week of December 19-25. That's the power of Monster Hunter. Sony, you should know. The drop is so severe that the PSP, Wii, and PS3 have also defeated the Vita. Ouch...

(Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 has sold fewer units than the DSi.)

Is the 3DS $70-$130 more in Japan than the Vita? When the Vitas price got announced it was the same as the 3DS, so people thought it was really priced well. I'm sure if the 3DS didn't have the price drop these figures would be much closer.

The Vita lacks the accessibility that Japanese people want. We want backward compatibility for our UMDs, not some buy-it-again program through which we have to take them all and take up precious space on overpriced memory cards -- the biggest of which are not even available yet.
We want RPGs, of which there's only crappy Lord of Apocalypse (lame), Dark Huntingwhateverthehell (lame), and Disgaea 3 (OK that's cool, but it's still a port).
    We want collector games.
    We want Monster Hunter!
    Etc.
