Join the Battle of the Gridiron, Gamestop and Virgin's Madden NFL Tournament

When gaming retailer GameStop and... uh, Virgin Gaming(?) join together, you just know... something... is up. What the hell is going on here? GameStop and Richard Branson? What kind of devil's deal has been made here?

Apparently, it's a deal that players will have to settle on the virtual football field. The "Battle of the Gridiron" tournament will take place online, with players who've preordered or purchased Madden NFL 12 from GameStop eligible to register with Virgin Gaming for the tournament.

Registration is open between August 30th and September 18th while the tournament runs from September 11th to October 16th. Four grand prize winners will get flown to L.A. for complimentary entry into the EA Sports Madden NFL 12 Challenge Series final. That entry normally runs $5,000, with up to a million dollars in the purse. Four more players will win a trip to L.A. to watch the proceedings.

    Madden is a very nuanced gamed. A casual player or average fan may not realize it. Its the little details that make it all happen though. Step into that pocket! Shift the O-Line! 1 CUT AND UP!

    Looks like I need to get me a copy of Madden 12...and renew my XBox Live.

    Just keep in mind, when you see that I've won this tournament (because I am the Alpha & Omega when it comes to Madden), you heard it here on GR first!
