Kojima Confirms MGS5, Inspired By Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Posted on Wednesday, June 20 @ 11:05:51 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

We all knew it was coming eventually, but now it is finally official, Metal Gear Solid 5 is in fact real and currently in the works at Kojima Productions. The mastermind himself, Mr. Hideo Kojima shared the big news with IG Magazine, telling the outlet: "About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you 'a favor' like in the last Metal Gear Solid." Not exactly sure what he's referring to with the whole "favor" thing, but hey, some things are bound to get lost in translation.

"I liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it's better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5," Kojima added.

As expected, the interview also confirms that the game will run on the studio's Fox Engine and will serve as the next true installment in the series, unlike that outlandish spinoff from Platinum Games. "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots."

Where would you like to see Kojima Productions take the series with MGS5? Sound off in the comments below.

I like the Silent Hill approach: keep the core style intact, but come up with different stories and characters for each game. And a new story is just what MGS needs. Look at what a mess MGS4 was; just smashing together every character that ever existed in the series, including every plot element from all the previous games, and the result was some horrifying fan-service existance that was incomprehensible by even MGS standards and contained nothing but references to older, more original games in the form of Psycho Mantis ripoffs and bare chested boxing matches in place of a soul of its own.

Well... i know it'd be too much to ask... but i would love if MGS5 would be a prequel once more but this time about the boss when she was called the Joy.

But that's asking too much, spin off is good too!

Doesn't matter what anyone else says because Dan summed up the reality of the situation perfectly.

I think they could start where the last one ended and introduce a new character like Snakes's protege. Someone he trained at some point who isn't as good as Snake in his better days but is better than Snake in older age. You could then develop the character to make him more bad ass as his series progresses. Kind of like the 2011 film Killer Elite story. Snake still cameos in flashbacks and is still amazing in his old age but this kid would be the new generation. If they could get the personality kind of edgy like Snake and have them butting heads a bit it would make for less of a culture shock with the character i.e. Raiden being completely different in SoL. Lot's of potential and much love for this series.

After having played both MSG4 and DE:HR, and coming away with the opinion that DE: HR is the game that MSG4 should have been. I say Kojima should be looking at much more than just the social interaction aspects of the game.

Okay just thought of a co-op metal gear solid for my comment above. Snake as wing man and protege as main character. RE 5 (Single player controlling two characters) + Deus Ex HR + Solid. Reminds me of batman & robin two bad asses with very different tactics and devices working together to set up some bad guys. I just remember playing akham city with the different charcters and thinking some of these missions would be so much easier and more fun if I had my buddy rocking a robin or nightwing suit. Oh the combinations I could envision...

Well, I'm a Metal Gear junkie (I even own the AC!D games) so it's all gravy for me. My guess is that Kojima was probably talking about the limited interaction with the rebels in the war zone sections of MGS4, and how these could benefit Snake moving undetected through the combat zones.

I think I read somewhere that Peacewalker was originally going to BE Metal Gear Solid 5, but Konami wouldn't let him slap a number on (what was then) a handheld game. If I remember right, he says in the documentary about the handover of Rising to Platinum that originally they were planning on making a version of MGS5 about The Boss during WWII, but started production on Rising instead.

People do love Snake (no matter if it's Naked or Solid flavored) but damn would I love to play as The Boss.
