Kojima Considering New Metal Gear Spin-Off Starring The Boss

Posted on Friday, February 22 @ 14:48:32 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Kojima Productions' Hideo Kojima is quite pleased with how Metal Gear Rising turned out. In fact, its success has opened him up to the possibility of doing additional spin-off game centered around other characters.

When asked about this by VG247, Kojima replied, “I think Rising was a special case. In the future I may make other games, maybe featuring The Boss as a main character. That’s something I want to make personally, but as far as a series of spin-offs – there may be another Rising in the future, but it’s not something I want to make a habit of.”

Does the idea of a game centered around The Boss interest you? Which Metal Gear side character would you like to see have his/her own game? I for one would love a game starring Ocelot.

Yes. Also The Boss could be pretty darn cool. I feel like her personality didn't come through so much in mgs3, so if they do a good job filling that in I'd be very happy.

Hmmm... like a world war 2 spin off? Or am i going to far here.

Also any game that will give more chances for the fury and the pain to shine would be pretty awesome.

I want to play the game where teenaged Ocelot seduces his step-mom.

Considering that Kojima's original plan for Metal Gear Solid 5 was to have his younger development teach create a game about The Boss during the invasion of Normandy, this isn't exactly surprising. Rising was created as a stopgap for him to try to hand off the franchise to a new generation of Metal Gear developers internal at Kojima Productions without having to worry about a numbered game in the series (incidentally Peacewalker was also at one time considered to be MGS5).

With the core story of the different Snake's essentially wrapped up with MGS4, Kojima can really only go backward unless he rewrites Metal Gear history even more (Peacewalker essentially leads almost directly to the start of the original MSX Metal Gear, with the construction of a functional Metal Gear at the end of the game, and Mother Base growing into what is almost certainly the original Outer Heaven). Ground Zeroes will probably cement that further.

Kojima could probably continue the trend indefinitely backwards though time. A game about The Boss could lead to a game set in WWI about Major Zero, and to whomever his mentor might have been, back through recorded history. Standing in as Metal Gear, you could always have a weapon capable tipping the balance of power too heavily in one direction or another.

How about a spin-off of that guy that tells you to shut up and let's you take pictures of his ass?

Or of that fat guy who's a bombing and skating expert that looks like Fester? Or of that vampire who's a metrossexual bisexual? Or of Kojima's pinky toe?

Anything can work, as long as Kojima remembers to make me sit through 4 hours of CGI instead of playing espionage.

Doesn't going from big boss to the boss seem like a down grade?
Only joking, a game featuring the boss as a playable character would be awsome. They should also make the rest of the cobras playable. That would be sweeeet.

Didint Kojima say during one interview with PSM that he doesnt want to be known as "That Metal Gear Guy" or "The guy that makes Metal Gear games"? YET...he keeps on planning on making more MG games. I'm not complaining.....it just seems that Kojima wants to ride the gravy train a bit. I just hope he doesn't butcher up the series like Capcom did with Resident Evil.
