Konami Teases New Game, Hints Point Toward Castlevania

Posted on Thursday, May 24 @ 11:36:54 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Konami is almost ready to unveil a new game, and while details aren't planned to be announced until the end of the month, a couple hints give us a good idea of what we can expect.

A teaser site is up for what Konami is calling The Dragon Returns, but that isn't the title if my investigation is correct. A quick opening of the page's source code reveals something very telling. It says:

site_name = CLOS Teaser Page

CLOS is the acronym for Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow which released in 2010. Unless Konami is playing a trick on us, a sequel or prequel is in the works.

The page details also say:

Dare you face the evil darkness? It is written that the creatures behind that door will return very soon to claim the souls of your loved ones, and send you straight to hell! Be aware!

That certainly sounds like the Castlevania I know.

As far as how "The Dragon Returns" fits into Castlevania, dragon translates into both devil and dragon in Romanian, where vampire lore has lived for centuries.

If that isn't enough evidence, just look at the website's art or the image above which Konami posted on its Facebook wall. The colors and design scream Castlevania.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was a great game but had the potential to be a lot more. Look forward to the announcement of what Konami has been working on—which is certainly a Castlevania game—on May 31st.

    I cannot believe I haven't played a single Castlevania game EVER, but so much curiosity may make me buy this... next year, this year's list is already full.

    Maybe they'll jump on the wagon and make a Castlevania MMO! I'd poop my pants if that was it.
