LATEST FEATURESBeing A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.
Before Microsoft and Sony do something regarding their future in the video game business, I wanted to write, and I've wanted it for a long time now, but other things kept getting in my way, and fearing that tomorrow might be too late, today will have to do.

Latest Ad From Sony Scorns Nintendo, "Yay, Another Mario Game"

If there's one thing Sony has against its competition, it's the copious amount of first-party IPs. Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, God of War, etc. The titles are endless.
Sony has decided to make use of this advantage in an aggressive way. The Google Ad below is the result:
Yes, Sony just went there.
The 20th is looking to be the beginning of the next world console war. Embrace yourselves.
They could have, but do we really want to encourage everyone's PR department to be slinging insults at each other when they could just be advertising their games/systems?
Why bother shredding something that the public has pretty much dismissed anyway? By even acknowledging that the move is competition probably would have brought more publicity to the thing than it deserved.
Seriously, how many people do you know own a move? Additionally, how many people do you know use the move for more than...2 games?
Jonathan, your left, Nintendo fanboy brain, must be at total odds with your right, Sony fanboy brain. I count the days until your dual personalities eventually tear you apart at the seems. :P
The internal conflict within me is incomprehensible. On one hand is the delicious simplicity of Nintendo. On the other, the titanic Protoss mothership known as Sony. I'm conflicted with no resolve. Is this tension prescribed?
The answer is unknown, but for now I lie in agony as my drive to arrive at my true destiny is tested through endless struggle within myself.
Ni no kuni is currently blowing me away with its awesomeness! Don't what I love about it though, I usually go for the dark gritty RPGs. Anyways, One of the best exclusives on the PS3 system!
Well for what it's worth, of the 90+ video games I've reviewed spanning the last 10 years, there are only 3 total that have gotten maximum ratings from me, and Ni no Kuni and Valkyria Chronicles are two of them :)
I'd go so far as to say that they're not even as good the very few exclusives that Microsoft have.
It's not just bad marketing on Sony's part; they really do have the worst exclusives after losing so many key franchises this generation that have since gone multiplatform (Metal Gear, FF, GTA, etc.). There may be a lot of them, but quantity doesn't trump quality IMO.
Hah. Same here, Heath. I appreciate what Uncharted 2 accomplished, but other than that, I can't say I enjoy any of those IPs all that much. My attachment to the PlayStation is rooted in the early PSone days when Final Fantasy and Metal Gear were exclusive.
Those are pretty big words from the company that wanted customers to sell its handheld for them. I think they're threatened because Mario put on his giant shoe suit and is stomping the hell out of the vita. And what's with all the Dreamcast hate? I love my Dreamcast like it's a handicapped puppy!
He may have meant Dreamcast pessimism, placing that console as an example of the possible failed future of Sony/MS/Nintendo on the home consoles field. You know what? Up until the release of the Wii U, I thought that the "mobile gaming is going to kill home consoles" crowd was full of rubbish, but the poor performance of Nintendo's latest console has made me rethink my stance, perhaps we are headed for an Android/iOS dominated gaming future.
So war were declared. By the company that lost more money on bad investments (the Vita, the PS3's hideously underpowered hardware, David Cage, a separate seat on flights to press junkets for Cage's ego) than the other two platform builders combined. That company. I'm sure Aƫtius would be jubilant just about now, what with victory in sight, and surely Sony, too, will have the good luck of Ballmer dying whilst fighting off Iwata who will then die of esophogeal varices.
First, grow up. Second, I'm not some Microsoft fanboy. Their hardware may be less bad (they're both seven years old and showing their age in multiple ways) but it's still bad. 512 MB of undivided memory (better than the PS3's twin 256 MB pools) and a full-sized PC DVD drive (which both prevented a proper heat-sink for the CPU and still scratches discs) in a box too small to fit it are offset, at best, by a more orthodox hardware design which is easier to build games for.
Here's an example; exploration work was done (but never finished, for obvious reasons) on porting ArmA 2 to the X-Box 360. There was never even a serious chance of doing a PS3 version.
I don't think underpowered is what you mean, I think simply harder to work with is and is a legitimate complaint that has a serious effect on the games that do and don't come out for the system. Also I laughed at "stubby dong".
The inability to strike compromises as in the 360 (using unified memory allows more interactable-intensive games to push complexity at the expense of visual memory) and an OS with a steep memory footprint (depends on version, but the figures I've been able to gather posit a 50-120MB range, 120MB being the earliest versions) ensures that it is, in practice, less powerful than its competitors. The addition of an unorthodox architecture ensures that software designed for other platforms will be less efficient on the hardware, and software designed for it will be less efficient on other systems (Dark Souls). Both consoles are underpowered but the 360 does have some minor wiggle room for marginal gains.
Does anyone else notice all Pepsi ads for past 20 years make fun of coke, yet coca cola never said **** about Pepsi? This reminds me of that to a lesser extent
One can only hope that they drop The Last Guardian with the PS4 and it's so amazing that it completely destroys any hope for any other console to have a game of that caliber.

*crosses fingers... totally not like a psycho or anything*
But seriously, I think I'll jizz in my pants if the PS4 launches with Last Guardian and Kojima's little whale project.
