Latest Nintendo Direct Showcases Wii U Chat, Details Miiverse

Posted on Wednesday, November 7 @ 08:55:05 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

In a brand-new episode of Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and company shed light on a few Wii U-centric features that until now have remained shrouded in mystery.

On November 18th, when you boot up your Wii U for the first time, you'll be taken to the WaraWara Plaza, Nintendo's previously revealed social Miiverse hub. You'll be able to read messages from your friends and see what the rest of the community is playing.

The system's video chat application "Wii U Chat" was also detailed, and in the video above you can watch Reggie Fils Aime and Mr. Iwata put the service to the test. Listening to Reggie attempt to speak Japanese is particularly entertaining. As expected, you can draw on the tablet while you chat—a nice addition, but unless you're five years-old I can't imagine you'll use it all that much.

Let us know what you think of these latest announcements in the comments below.

I love these Nintendo Direct videos so much. Do Sony or Microsoft do this?

I don't think they ever did.

I think the drawing function will be one of the most heavily used features... Skype doesn't let you draw all manner of dicks entering your friends' mouths.

This is why I'll never add anyone from GameRevolution to my Wii U friends list! :P

Lol, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I like how Reggie drew a heart for Iwata. He might have a man-crush!

You could say that Reggie's body is totally ready.
