E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Features Edgier Protagonist

Posted on Tuesday, December 18 @ 08:38:29 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Square Enix is currently working away on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which, as the name implies, stars FFXIII's original protagonist, Lightning.

In the latest issue of Famitsu (via AGB), we get a sneak peak at what Lightning will look like in the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy XIII saga.

What do you think of Lightning's new outfit? Do you like the leather-heavy attire or is a bit over the top? Then again, this is Final Fantasy we're talking about, so I'm sure she'll blend in just fine.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII launches next year for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Why are they beating the **** out FFXIII? Move on to XV and try not to **** it up. Or - and I'm just spitballin' here - give the fans what they really want in the form of an FFVII HD remake. I truly don't understand why they aren't doing it, considering it will only benefit their profits and image as a company that gives fans what they want. It's a win-win.

I agree. They should put this team on the next FF and really invest the assets and time needed to make it a stellar FF game.

You can't blame them for wanting to move forward as a company. How can they improve the series from here on if they're focusing on remakes? I'm sure they don't want to have a reputation for having their good games ending with FFX and they just leave it at that, they're a talented company and they don't want FF to die. It's like playing a multiplayer game. You could always just join sessions of people who are lower ranks than you and get a good k/d ratio, or you can play people you're own rank and actually get better at the game, regardless of what your stats say.

A FF7 remake can easily put Square back in the green and finally shut the fans up about getting a FF7 remake.

But can you imagine how much revenue would become available for making a better FF game if they just released an HD remake of FFVII? I'm not saying don't move forward with the games, I'm saying give the fans what they want before continuing. Also, they're currently not moving forward by working on something nobody really wants: another mediocre FFXIII experience. As much as I hate to admit it, gaming is now a major industry, and risks are harder to take. But it's clear that Square-Enix doesn't have a firm grasp on their own business model, as is evidenced by their poor sales numbers in the last couple years. If they don't get huge sales numbers on their upcoming releases, they're going to go the way of THQ. An FFVII remake would give them some padding and wiggle room to do some creative gambling with FFXV (and beyond?), which is something the series is in dire need of.
