Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Lumines Coming to PlayStation Vita

Posted on Tuesday, August 16 @ 10:28:44 Eastern by

Ubisoft has announced that they're bringing six of their top titles to the PlayStation Vita. And while Daniel has that announcement covered, I wanted to put the spotlight at one very special game: Lumines. Lumines is a block-dropping puzzle game set to kick-ass music. It launched with the PSP, and to this day remains one of the best reasons to buy one of Sony's handhelds.

And with a new Lumines on the PlayStation Vita, there is instantly an excellent reason for everyone to buy one. I know I will. Between Lumines and Sound Shapes, there are going to be plenty of unique music games available for Sony's new beast of a handheld.

Nick and I were just talking about Lumines during our dry run of our new, upcoming podcast. You'll be able to check that conversation out in our forums very soon.

Anyone a fan of Lumines? If so, does this make the Vita more appealing to purchase?

I never heard of Lumines before today. So I Googled it and watched some game play video on youtube. I must say that my first thought was it was similar to Tetris World on GBA. I’ve kill a lot of time with Tetris on the GameBoy and Tetris World on the GBA. It looks really fun, but not fun enough to justify $249.99 for a PSV, especially since Sony dropped their price on the PS3. If I do get a PSV it will be sometime in 2013 or 2014, by then it will have a library of games and maybe a price drop itself.

It's one of those games you simply have to play before passing judgement, you won't be able to put it down.

I’m not trying to judge it without playing it, but the cost is the barrier, that and the PSV isn’t releasing here until 2012. By the way are you tiring to get me hooked on it? The old “try it, you’ll like it” line?

THIS is good news. If they re-vamp Lumines, maybe figure out a new mode or three, and pack it with all new music, I could see playing this again. Not necessarily a killer-app, but it honestly does make the Vita a bit more appealing to me.
