The recent release of Evolve and The Order 1886 really got me to thinking about the disparity between the perspective of sales-driven publishers and the quality-driven purchases of consumers. The “Hype Train” is nothing new, but the way it is utilized has been creating far more...

Mass Effect 3 Resurgence Pack DLC Will Be Free

Posted on Friday, April 6 @ 13:57:47 Eastern by

The rumors are true. Though I've seen the Resurgence Pack elsewhere, I haven't been able to talk about it... until now.

BioWare will be bringing a free pack - yes, it's FREE - for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer that will expand the character roster, add new maps, and bolster the number of weapons available in packs. Yesterday's Operation: Beachhead hinted at the inclusion of new characters with its description: "Allied forces have matched krogan mercs and batarians with asari justicars for unconventional warfare." Guess we know what they mean now.

Six new members will join the fray, one for each class: Asari Justicar Adept, Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer, Geth Infiltrator, and Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard. The Asari Justicar Adept will likely be a more offensive character than the regular Asari Adept, who generally is great as a sniper with its Statis bubble. The Batarian sentinel seems to have some kind of statis net of its own as well.

If you've hated Geth Hunters for their cloaking abilities, then it's time to turn the tables with the Geth Infiltrator. We'll just to have to see if it's as powerful as the Salarian Infiltrator, who I would currently rank as the top class in multiplayer right now. The Geth Engineer also seems fantastic with a power that seems to be similar to the Armor Lock in Halo: Reach where you become invincible but immobile. As for the Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard, well, let's just say I'm all rage-happy for that one.

The only downside is that, yes, you'll need to find the character unlock cards in packs to get them. Bah!

As for equipment, the pack will come with the Strike Assault Rifle (a Krogan rifle with explosive rounds), the Geth Plasma SMG, and the Kishock Harpoon Gun described as a "deadly one-shot batarian weapon" that "causes bleed-out or disruption of target". Not sure if this is any way like Scorpion's signature move, but it should at least be as deadly.

It will also add two new firebases: Firebase Condor and Firebase Hydra. The former is a warzone outpost on one of Palaven's moons while the latter is a dam facility that powers the communications hub at Firebase Dagger.

The Resurgence Pack free add-on is scheduled to arrive next week on April 10. (Geth vs. Geth Operation Challenge? Make it happen, Bioware!)
