Mass Effect 3 Spells the End of Shepard

Posted on Tuesday, August 30 @ 06:00:26 Eastern by

BioWare has said time and time again that Mass Effect 3 is considered the "end" of the trilogy, but that they plan on continuing the Mass Effect universe beyond three titles. When they do so, they'll be doing it without Commander Shepard.

While speaking with PC Gamer at gamescom in Cologne, Germany, BioWare CEO Ray Mazuka said that Mass Effect 3 spells the end of Commander Shepard's story.

Mass Effect 3 is simultaneously a couple of different things; a thrilling and epic conclusion to the trilogy as we promised our fans we'd provide for Commander Shepard.

He continued, explaining that the series will still go on without him.

But it's also a brand new beginning - it's an entry point for new fans and it's also a brand new beginning.

We have ambitious plans to continue this franchise going forward.

Despite knowing Shepard's story is ending, nothing is spoiled. There are plenty of ways this could go. Call it now: Does Shepard die? Does he turn evil Darth Vader style and become the villain for the next trilogy? Or something else entirely? Give your scenario for the end of Shepard below.

i've never had enough time to play any of the mass effect games, although they are on my list.
my totally unsupported triple blind storyline has Shepard retiring to the hills of Ireland to become a, you guessed it, shepherd.

I'd see one of the possible outcomes of the game being shepard dies. but the glory of mass effect is the openness. Very possible that there will be multiple endings with shepard dieing or surviving

In following with Mass Effect style, I'm sure the ending will be quite relevant to your behavior. I'm glad to see them make this call though. Shepard is a good main character, but he would run the risk of exhaustion if he were to be forced on a 4th adventure. I expect a lot of grouchiness and "I'm too old for this ****!" out of Shepard in the next installment.

He kicks some ass and takes some names. Saves the galaxy, and then goes off into distant space on his own. Never to be heard of again.....DUN DUN DUN. Until you do hear from him again. DUN DUN DUN. *SPOILER ALERT* for Mass Effect 7. Shepard makes a cameo appearance.

A trilogy is really just the right stopping point if you ask me. Shepard's run the gauntlet two times, and in each game the odds get bigger. I'm thinking he's going to go the Captain Anderson route. Settle down.

Maybe help the Quarians reclaim their home planet, if you know what I'm saying.
