I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Mass Effect Multiplayer Looking More and More Likely

Posted on Monday, October 3 @ 13:00:00 Eastern by

I don't know about you, but I'm enamored with Mass Effect's lengthy, personalized story. Making choices and seeing them reflected in each subsequent game's narrative. Did you see Wrex in Mass Effect 2? Will the Rachni Queen play a role in Mass Effect 3? Will you shoot each other over and over again in an endless war of humans against humans in online multiplayer?

That appears to be the case according to a discovery at the BioWare forums. Apparently, the Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition will arrive in player's hands with an "Online Multiplayer Pass".

Whaaaat? You know GameRevolution's own Anthony Severino was in Vegas last week playing Mass Effect 3...

And here I thought Mass Effect 2 was going to be rock bottom for the series.

Just another game, on a long list of games, which doesn‘t need a multiplayer component that is getting a multiplayer component. If they shoehorn in an online multiplayer mode, they figure that you will be less likely to trade the game in as quickly, thus they will have more new game sales which means more profits for them. Doing this will probably lessen, cheapen, or damage the single player campaign, not all games need to be COD with it almost nonexistent single player game.

While I generally agree that adding a multiplayer component is unnecessary and may hinder the storyline of this great franchise, look at Dead Space 2. That actually has a decent multiplayer that was tacked on, but the story and gameplay of single player was still AMAZING. This game should have a bigger budget since the first 2 did so well, so maybe it will just be tacked on separately by a different team like Dead Space. No need to scream DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM yet.

I never scream DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, dude. There is only so much room on a DVD so what gets cut if the multiplayer component won't fit? The single player campaign. Dead Space was probably the exception and not the rule when it comes to tack on multiplayer.

I already think that the Mass Effect franchise is one of the best in current gaming. I bet this 3rd game and the tacked-on multiplayer will be totally awesome.
