Master Chief's Facelift in Halo 4 First Look Video

With Halo 4 slated for a release this fall as a major tentpole blockbuster on the Xbox 360, it was only a matter of time before we actually got our eyes on the return of Master Chief and Cortana.

Despite a cameo role in Halo: Reach, it's been a while since we got to play with the ol' Spartan again. 343 Industries is working to make sure there's nothing ol' about him though, while still retaining what made Halo so great the in the first place (read: what made it worth billions of dollars).

I honestly don't know if the world needs another Halo game. Sure, there could be something else out there that'd drive sales of the Xbox 360 while a new console is being developed... but that would be a risky move, possibly losing Microsoft tons of money.

So Halo 4 awayyyyy!!! Have you read our preview yet?

    Me, Cortana, kicking ass and exploring alien worlds. THAT IS ALL I WANT. As sequels to Halo 1, The stories in Halo 2 and 3 was just so horrible that they really tore me out of the experience. Hopefully 343 Studios will go back to basics this time around.

    Agreed. Definitely need to dial it back and make it more exploratory of the environment than of Master Chief or humans in general.

    Inject some humanity into the games. MC was way too robotic to have any real investment, I thought Reach's story was a step in the right direction. Give me a Spartan and AI who are in a new type of combat fighting a new enemy and having their old predispositions and ways of thinking challenged. Make it complicated, because war is anything but simple.

    Is Halo too big to fail? Or would it be devastating to Microsoft and the 360 if Halo 4 was a terrible game? Maybe those are better questions for the podcast as I am curious of the staff's thoughts.
