Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Producer Says It's A True Metal Gear Game

Posted on Saturday, October 27 @ 08:59:34 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance a true Metal Gear title? That's debateable, but its developer confidently thinks so.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's Producer, Yuji Korekado, is convinced that his upcoming game displays the important qualities that Metal Gear fans look for.

Surprisingly, this demo shown for the first time and is the culmination of our art and story direction, and Platinum's design. We have the feeling that we have together made something great. We can only oppose those who say that this is not a Metal Gear game.

The big detail that he doesn't appear to be considering is that Metal Gear fans—such as myself—are attracted to the series for its stealth and espionage. There are thousands of games out there that put you in the role of a cool guy who destroys everything in his path for the greater good, but there are only a few that let you do it without getting your hands dirty.

However, that isn't to say that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance isn't going to be excellent. Actually, if you've been following our impressions over the past year—podcasts, writeups, etc.—you're well aware that we anticipate it greatly.

A stealth game isn't in Platinum Games' blood; it excels at high-octane action with flashy visuals and regular an unrivaled level of intensity . That's exactly what the Metal Gear franchise is going to be exposed to with this upcoming game, and it just might provoke some of the most epic metal gear battles of all-time.

It's a different game existing in the Metal Gear universe. Whether that is considered a Metal Gear game or not is up for debate. Either way, this game should be really fun.

Cyborg Ninjas were in MGS1,2, and 4, so it isn't as if it is against the style of MGS. This is a series that is inspired by mecha anime and such things after all.

Maybe it means it will be a true Metal Gear game in the sense that it will have endless cutscenes that interrupt gameplay.

I don't really care what kind of game this is, it's just a spin-off. MGS: Ground Zeroes looks very Metal Gear, and that's all i care about.

This reminds me a bit of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Fun to play for $15 but would I consider it a Resident Evil game no. Same thing goes for Ratchet & Clank: All for 1 nice spin off but not really a true sequel. Both are fun as this game will probably be but simply not for the same reasons we have come to like the brand. Kojima sets standards with Metal Gears (how far will he push the system next...there are 2 possibly 3 iterations of the game per console generation each maximizing the technology at the time of release. Unless this game brings that to the table then "No" it's not Metal Gear but will probably still be quite a bit of fun.
