Metal Gear: Rising VGA Trailer Leaks Early

Posted on Saturday, December 10 @ 14:47:50 Eastern by

The trailer for Metal Gear: Rising has been leaked ahead of the VGAs. The trailer footage using the in-game engine and offers a few surprises (and one not so suprising).

"Solid" has now been dropped from the title of the game. Smart move, consdering how much of a departure the game is from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. It's much more hack-n-slash action-y, a perfect fit for the game's new developer which has also been revealed in the trailer...

Platinum Games. The minds behind Bayonetta and Vanquish have taken the helm of Kojima Productions' Metal Gear spin-off. This shouldn't come as a suprise, as it was rumored now for a long time.

Check out the video below, and make sure you tune in later for our SpikeTV Video Game Award Live Chat.

I wanted to leave my opinion out of the article so others can take it how they want to. But being such a huge MGS fan, I'm not even remotely interested in this. It looks like crap. And it's certainly not Metal Gear Solid. I guess that's why they changed the name. It looks more like Ninja Raiden Sigma (see what I did there?), and I'm not digging it.

    How about you guys?

^This is what's wrong with the industry.

Love the developer, automatic positive opinion of the game.
Hate the developer, automatic negative opinion of the game.

Tired of Platinum Games rehashing Devil May Cry.

I'm just butthurt that this is gonna get more attention than Vanquish, just because they slapped Metal Gear on the title.

If this was called Revengeance no one would give a ****.

Revengeance also sounds like a bad action movie sequel starring Bruce Willis.

It's obviously going in a completely different direction from Metal Gear Solid in terms of both gameplay and plot. The fact that it's Metal gear is enough for me to at least give it a chance since I feel like Konami wouldn't allow a subpar game to be produced for the franchise. That said I will likely be renting it rather than buying - unless I'm swayed by a review from the only Video Game site I trust implicitly ;-)

I agree with you Anthony as far as the idea that if you're looking for a game with classic MGS style...this obviously won't be it. That said, if they're ripping off a game they could do a lot worse than Ninja Gaiden

Um, I hope there's a heavy stealth element... but I didn't really see it in the trailer.

I don't even....I sat here for 10 minutes trying to put my thoughts into words. Nothing can really describe my initial impression but the two words "What? and Why?"

Time will tell. And in that time, MGS HD Collection will put my faith back into Kojami and the upcoming MGS5.

Absolutely nothing about that trailer makes we the least bit interested in the game.

Labeled as any other game and I would be cautiously interested. As a Metal Gear there's certain expectations... and the absence of Kojima makes me nervous. Like Led Zeppelin without Bohnam.

But I guess all of the Metal Gear universe isn't Snake sneaking into bases. I think I just talked myself into to giving this a fair shot...
