Microsoft Partner Registers XboxEvent Domain, April Reveal Expected

Posted on Friday, February 22 @ 09:46:21 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Sony blew the lid off of the next generation of gaming with the reveal of the PlayStation 4 just a couple days ago, which apparently put the guys over at Microsoft on their heels.

One Sony official who wished to remain nameless told CVG that they had heard that the event "at first caught Microsoft off-guard," adding that they "definitely ruffled some feathers." According to the outlet, there's talk of an April event in which Microsoft will debut its new console.

It was also discovered (via NeoGAF) that event planner Eventcore has registered the domain XboxEvent.com. The company has worked with Microsoft in the past, so it's clear that the Big M is gearing up for something quite large in the very near future.

Keep it tuned to GameRevolution for all your next-gen needs.

Sony set the bar pretty low with their presentation. All Microsoft has to do is actually show their console and they win this round.

I don't understand why is everyone giving that much importance to the looks of the console. For me, the games and features are far more important.

They just didn't tell us anything about the PS4 that we didn't already know. At least showing the console itself would have been something.

Maybe so, but most of our knowledge of the PS4 were rumors. I don't think that confirmation of these rumors is "nothing new".

Sony set the bar pretty high, and if the leaked specs are true then prepared to be disappointed unless they do something super amazing with the kinect or online service.

The only way I see Microsoft winning this is if they concentrate more on games then anything. But I doubt that, everything is going to revolve around social media like the PS4. Man Gaming has come along way from back when I was playing my SNES in the early 90s. Calling my friend over to play some Donkey Kong Country or some Killer Instinct. Ahh the good old days.

I just received an email from XBox saying: "Download your very own Justin Bieber Dance Pack!"
Now I really know which console I'm buying.

If both systems are equally powered, equally priced, and offer an equal online infrastructure.... Sony will win... they are simply more synonymous with gaming and have better exclusives. This is coming from primarily an Xbox gamer (all my friends are on Live....). 360 essentially won the current-gen war with PS3 (at least in North America) due to Sony's massive missteps (high price, hard to program for, poor online ecosystem). I think MS knows this and if Sony is offering a system that is on par with what they have in the pipeline, (as well as better exclusives) it would likely result in a generation loss for Xbox. Just my opinion.

Also because Xbox sales were inflated due to multiple console purchases due to RRoD. That had something to do with it. If my PS3 had died, I would have abandoned ship and switched to Xbox.

I, personally, bought two Xbox's since my first out of warranty. That is a very valid point.

I had a feeling Sony was bluffing when they said they'd wait to see how MS played their cards.

Of them being caught unawares I doubt it. They likely knew long before anyone else outside Sony what the PS4 was going to be and when it was going to hit. It was in their immediate and intermediate interest to know.
