LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Microsoft "Unapologetic" About Pushing Kinect on Casual Gamers

Posted on Tuesday, June 28 @ 13:31:18 Eastern by

In an interview with MCV, Xbox's EMEA Vice President Chris Lewis pinpointed the Kinect as the reason for their success and have no qualms about pushing the Kinect as hard as they can:

...Xbox is defying the normal curve you might expect. There's no doubt that Kinect put a huge shot of adrenaline into the arm of the business. What we are now seeing is massive swathes of families and younger audiences flocking to it...

What you won’t see is us contriving that. What you will see is us using Kinect to enhance the experience and not detract from it. I don’t think our core gamers will tolerate anything else from us...

I think we are on a journey for growth and we are unapologetic about the fact we want to appeal to those audiences you described. The key is not to alienate any of those whilst also trying to appeal to them. And about targeting marketing and understanding our audiences, we are getting way more savvy about the partnerships that will enhance that kind of appeal...

Kinect is a piece of garbage and will be the downfall of Microsoft this generation.

Apparently this guy has got some serious tunnel vision. The one console who capitalized the most off motion control is now MOVING AWAY from motion control towards something more towards a traditional controller (sort of? kind of? probably? who knows at this point, not us) but you get the point. Nintendo has proven that while it's nice to appeal to the youngings and the families and the geriatrics, it's the "core gamers" that pay the bills.

    An open letter to microsoft:

    To Whom it may concern:
Will you please stop trying to jam this Kinect crap down my gullet! It is nothing but a camera thats always on in my front room (maybe thats why you keep trying to get me to buy it, so you can peak at my naughty bits while im unawares). Core game players dont want it, nuff said. Now move on and get to work on your next piece of crap "breakthrough".

    Sincerely
    Gamers
