More Half-Life Coming Someday

Posted on Wednesday, March 30 @ 14:07:46 Eastern by Blake_Morse

We've been hearing talk about getting more head crabby, crowbar smashing, G-Man goodness ever since the credits for Half-Life 2: Episode 2 rolled nearly four long years ago, and to this day it still seems like all we ever get from Valve are little, "Oh yeah, we're totally gonna make it."-type blurbs here and there. Now we can add this aloof little quote from Marketing head, Doug Lombardi, to the pile who said the following when asked if we'd ever actually see another Half-Life game:

"You will ever see it, yes. We are not done with Gordon Freeman's adventures. I have nothing other than that to tell you today, but hang in there with us."

With Portal 2 just around the corner, could they be holding off a bit? Perhaps Aperture Science's latest experiment will have something to reveal about the future of hardest working theoretical physicist in the gaming biz. Valve did mention something last September about having three big reveals that would span over the next 12 months. Everyone already figures it's going to be something involving Half-Life, and I sincerely hope it is. Otherwise this series is going to start looking like the next Duke Nukem Forever.

I'd be very happy if it turned out Aperture Science's parent company was Black Mesa.

I just finished replaying Half-Life 2 and Portal in the last couple days, the reason any of this happened is because Gordon opened up a rift which connected Earth with the alien limbo of Xen, later on in HL2, they were able to use this tear into Xen as sort of a crossroads where they could then just send a person back to any other point on earthEarth->Xen->Earth.

Apeture Science seems to have accomplished this in another way.

Black Mesa and Apeture Science exsist in the same universe, one day they will cross over.

My theory? Chell is Gordon and Alyx's child.

I've played the HL2 series so far and Portal, and know they're in the same universe. I just can't shake the feeling that somewhere in the upcoming Portal 2, the Gman is going to pop out and say hello to Chell.
