E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Naughty Dog Reveals The Last of Us Box Art, Pre-Order Bonuses

Posted on Monday, December 10 @ 07:52:28 Eastern by Alex_Osborn
By now, it should be readily obvious to the GameRevolution community that I like pretty things. Some say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I'm sorry, I can't help but be swayed by a game's box art. Fortunately, Naughty Dog and Sony have managed to put together a pretty amazing cover for The Last of Us.

Behold.

Today also brings new information regarding pre-order bonuses. If you reserve the game at participating stores, you'll get the "Sights and Sounds Pack" which includes:
  • The official soundtrack
  • A PS3 dynamic theme featuring the cover art above
  • Two avatars for your PSN profile (Winter Joel and Winter Ellie)
Those who tough it out and opt to reserve the game at GameStop will get not only the "Sights and Sounds Pack" but also the "Survival Pack" which includes:
  • Bonus experience points for multiplayer
  • A multiplayer melee attack booster
  • Some extra starting in-game cash
  • Special customizable character items for multiplayer
  • Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign
Oh, and in case you missed it, here is the latest trailer that aired during the VGAs.

How totally hyped are you for The Last of Us? Be sure to let us know what you think of the box art and pre-order goodies in the comments below. And don't forget, the game comes out May 7th, 2013.

These are enticing pre-order bonuses. Good thing I planned on pre-ordering anyway. I'm a little disappointed by the inclusion of multiplayer, though. I think it's going to bring the game down overall. But maaaayyyybe I'll be eating my words in 6 month's time.

The inclusion of multiplayer in Uncharted 2 didn't mar the single-player experience, so I wouldn't be too worried.

I agree with you, but then again, I think the focus on multiplayer may have been what ultimately brought the single player experience of Uncharted 3 down a notch. Still fun as hell, but nowhere near Uncharted 2, and they didn't even include all the awesome aspects of the beta in the finished product. It was a two-front letdown.

That's not because of Uncharted 3's multiplayer. If the inclusion of multiplayer in UC3 weighed down the single-player, then why didn't it have the same effect on UC2's campaign?

The real reason UC3 wasn't quite as good as UC2 is because the team broke into two groups and the B-team was put on UC3, while the A-team moved on to The Last of Us.

I was unaware of that. I watched some of the dev diaries, though, and it seemed like they were always referencing how "big" they wanted to to make their multiplayer. GR also posted something about how the devs wanted to compete with CoD in terms of multiplayer.

Either way, I'm sure The Last of Us will provide a fantastic and unique single player campaign. I have no doubts that it'll be different, fun, and beautifully made. Naughty Dog hasn't let me down since CTR.

I agree with Jobin. I really wish there wasn't multiplayer but hopefully Sony threw enough cash at Naughty Dog that more talent could be hired on and assets weren't taken away from single-player development.

Of course, no multiplayer would have been ideal, but in today's day and age it has sort of become a necessary evil. That is, unless you're Ken Levine.

Damn, I wish I wasn't broke, cause then I would run out and pre order this. I'm even more excited for this game. I agree with Jobin and Daniel, little wary about multiplayer, but we'll have to wait and see.

WHAT ONLY $5 AT GAMESTOP TO PREORDER AND GET THE DAY 1 DLC GAMEBREAKING MULTIPLAYER WEAPONRY.

I am always preordering games "just-in-case" and then I typically cancel them or put the money on a different game before the preordered game even comes out.

So there's a certain amount of cash 'floating' in pre-orders at any given time. That's an interesting way to handle the matter.

When I think about it, it's pretty stupid. My bank account could use the (minimal) interest.

    Which games might those be?

I'd have to recommend Resistance 3. You can skip the first two (especially R2).

so, super late on the reply and maybe not worth it but, the drakes fortune series, metal gear, gran turismo, god of war, and by your recommendation, resistance 3... for starters :)

...and off to Gamestop I'll be going when I get paid on Friday. I typically pay the full amount when I preorder something. That way, when the game is released I don't have to worry about if it's in the budget that week or not. I also rarely preorder. I only had two from last year, and The Last of Us, will be my first for next year.

There's only a few games I pre-order, too. I've only been let down a couple times, but I usually trade toward stuff so it doesn't kill my wallet too badly. The worst pre-order decision I've ever made, though, is without a doubt Operation: Raccoon City. I still dwell on it late at night.
