Net Cafe Owners In Korea Want To Sue Blizzard For Server Problems

Posted on Tuesday, June 12 @ 12:58:23 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Gamers state-side may be frustrated with the server problems of Diablo III, but apparently no one is as peeved as Korean net cafe owners. The game has boosted their business, that is for sure, but that's only when it can get online.

The Korean Internet PC Culture Association (IPCA) recently created a website called "Diablo III Damage Lawsuit." From the website, it reads: "Blizzard Korea keeps harming gamers and PC bang with continual server problems." (PC bang is a net cafe.) The site was built as a place for net cafe owners and gamers to discuss a class action lawsuit to push Blizzard to do more to help net cafe owners and their customers.

The IPCA claims that connection difficulties has made playing Diablo III at net cafes in Korea nearly impossible, and as a result, the owners are hit with the losses. The losses are extremely steep when server maintenance takes all day instead of a few hours. In addition, net cafe owners were originally allowed to install the game for free, but after June 2nd, owners are required to pay Blizzard Korea royalty fees.

"Korea accounts for a large percentage of Blizzard's total revenue, and considering how much domestic users contribute to the firm's profit, its consumer services are severely disappointing," said IPCA head Kim Chan-kuen. "We are planning a class action lawsuit against Blizzard Korea, as users and PC room owners are suffering from constant server malfunctions and server check-ups for Diablo III while the company avoids responsibility."
