Netflix Hits Nintendo 3DS Today

Posted on Thursday, July 14 @ 10:25:05 Eastern by

Netflix instant streaming is available on the big three consoles and a number of smartphones. The next device to be added to that list is the Nintendo 3DS. Netflix instant streaming is arriving on the Nintendo 3DS some time today.

In the future, the 3DS might have an added feature which takes advantage of the 3DS' unique glasses-free 3D screen. In addition to regular 2D streaming movies which will be available today, Nintendo says that "users will soon have access to an additional library of select movies that can be viewed in 3D without the need for special glasses".

The Netflix app is available for free from the Nintendo 3DS eShop, but you must have a Netflix account with an instant streaming package. In related news, you now must pay for instant streaming separately from your standard Netflix in-mail package.

I don't really get how people can watch movies on their phones (and apparently DS's as well now). I mean, I can see how it can be convenient; watching movies while on a plane or long car ride or whatever, but staring at that tiny screen for two hours straight would give me a brain aneurism.

it's actually not that bad. i've been watching movies on my iphone for the past 3 years without any issues with headaches or vision. although i'm sure for some it could be a problem, i enjoy putting an entire season on my phone and just getting through it when i get a chance.

helps out a lot for doctors appointments or anything that requires waiting for long periods of time, perfect way to pass the time for sure.

Like I said, I can see WHY people do it, I just don't see HOW they can do it. I've been out of the mobile gaming loop for a few years now, but I can play my DS for a couple of hours at a time (with a break every now and then), but I can't play it for very long in cars because it gives me motion sickness and headaches. Trying to focus the same amount of energy on a movie probably wouldn't be any easier for me.

I haven't been into mobile gaming since Game Boy Advance...the retro style one that looked like an NES controller.

I just can't fathom shelling out MORE money for a portable gaming device when they're costing almost the same as a home console and not really looking or sounding as good. Maybe I'm just out of the loop or I'm too old to understand.

I wonder if my parents thought the same thing when they bought my first Gameboy!

Might as well get an iPhone, at least I can call someone if I need to!

still dont really care about the portable scene all that much, but this would still be interesting to see. Looks pretty good on paper, but i am still wondering how badly the battery life would be impacted, as well as the overall picture and sound quality. Guess the jury is still out on this one for me.

And now the Extended Battery made by Niko was an even better 29.99$ investment. I can use my cellphone at work and stream Netflix on my 3ds finally. Im a happy camper now.
