New Battlefield Title Launching Next Year

Posted on Thursday, January 31 @ 10:40:53 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Electronic Arts has announced that a new entry in the Battlefield franchise will be releasing at some point in 2014.

According to EA Labels president Frank Gibeau during an earnings call, the publisher "will be launching a Battlefield game next year” and, unsurprisingly, they are "very excited to show you guys more detail on that coming soon." He also went on to clarify that they company has no plans to shell out a new entry every year... yet. “We're not announcing an annualization of Battlefield at this time,” Gibeau added.

While the publisher didn't specify whether or not this was in reference to Battlefield 4, I'd say it's fairly safe to assume that they weren't talking about a new Bad Company.

Are you excited for more Battlefield or are you beginning to grow tired of the military FPS genre? Will a snazzy next-gen version be enough to rope you back in? Let us know in the comments below.

Ok Battlefield fans, listen up. I won't diss you guys at my parties if you all promise to stop with the CoD vs BF debates from now on. We cannot afford another fanboy war here, we are in a internet recession!

Good I'm glad. Theres too much to this game to pop one out every year. I have everything unlocked....it took for-freaking-ever. I'm glad to not have to do it again until next year.

I loved BF2 (one of the few games I actually played for years as opposed to months) and I'm still playing BF3 for over a year now. And yes, I played Modern Warfare 2 for several months and enjoyed that, too.

If BF4 continues to focus on team play (particularly coordination between air, armor, and infantry) then it'll grab my money. I would also like to see them bring back offline practice (bots) as opposed to trying a single player story (just not a strenght of BF, IMO).

In the interest of full disclosure, I played BF2 on PC but have been on BF3 on console.

Which means it'll most likely be next-gen. Will probably launch of PS3 and 360 as well. Hopefully they'll tailor the maps better for console gameplay...

I am probably one of the few people who enjoy both CoD and battlefield, so this news is great for gamers like me.

I really hope its a next gen launch title!!!
id like 32 - 64 players, even better graphics/physics, more destruction and so on...

i dont need another BF on 360... i still play BF3 and there is still 1 map pack on its way...

im glad EA hasnt become greedy with the series, i hope they never go yearly like cod, i really dont see the point... if you make a truly good shooter it should easily live 2+ years...
