A new batch of screenshots show off the introduction of the Tanooki Leaf item for Mario Kart 7 on Nintendo 3DS.

Kart racers who have the luck of grabbing the leaf in the random roulette of items will sprout a Tanooki tail at the end of their kart that can swipe away any shells aimed straight at their rear end as well as any competitors that come within tail distance.

Mario Kart 7 slides into stores December 4, 2011.
