New PlayStation Vita Bundle Includes PlayStation Plus Subscription

Posted on Thursday, November 29 @ 10:07:49 Eastern by Keri_Honea

'Tis the season for handheld bundles...

The PlayStation blog announced such a bundle for the PlayStation Vita, called the PS Plus Instant Game Collection PS Vita Bundle (good God, that's a mouthful), which proudly promotes the fact that the PlayStation Plus program is now on the Vita. The bundle includes a Vita with both Wi-FI and 3G capabilities, a one-year membership to PlayStation Plus, a voucher to download Unit 13, and a 4GB memory card, all for $299.99. If you price everything individually, it's really not a bad deal.

That is, it's not a bad deal until you start doing the math, and I don't mean the financial math.

Giving the one-year subscription instantly opens access to the current Instant Game Collection featured for the Vita, and if you want to take advantage of this feature, you'll need at least 10GB of space to download them all. However, the bundle only gives you a 4GB memory card.

Obviously, they're banking on consumers not wanting every single game available, but if you purchase this bundle solely for the free subscription to PS+, your card will fill up rather quickly when other games rotate into the Instant Game Collection.

Insert sad trombone here.

When you cut the subscription to PS Plus, do you still have access to all the games you downloaded through its perks? Like, could I join, download all of those, and then quit after my free trial but still have those?
Or am I locked into it and basically, when I say goodbye to paying for it every month, I also say goodbye to those games?

you'll lose everything you get for free, games, avatars, DLC and so on. but anything you purchase while using ps+ you can keep, even the discounted stuff. cant really complain though that for 50 bucks you get a years worth of discounts and it pays for itself soon after you get it. plus im sure you can get a year for cheaper if you hunt online

Sony is banking on the consumer buying more overpriced Sony memory cards. I sure know I did being a plus member that just got a psp. I feel used.

Or maybe Sony is thinking you can download and play one or two at a time. If you're not happy with that but a relatively cheap memory card or buy physical games. That's an awesome deal at an awesome price.

I got a free month trial whenever I purchased my PS3. Just advising everyone, your CC information is required most likely. They'll do an automatic payment after the trial unless you cancel it. Yes, I read the fine print for my redemption code. Haven't used it, yet.

That is a huge freakin' deal, man. I don't have a Vita yet, but I downloaded all of those games on my PS3 just to have them. Gotta love PS+
