New Warhammer 40K Game In Development

Posted on Thursday, March 14 @ 13:09:22 Eastern by Keri_Honea

The Warhammer 40K universe may be mostly in the hands of The Black Library and Games Workshop, but after THQ dissolved, many a Warhammer 40K fan was left wondering what would happen to any future video games. Thankfully, the future for Warhammer 40K video games isn't as dim as THQ's. Slitherine announced today that they have partnered with Games Workshop to develop a new turn-based strategy game for the Warhammer 40K universe.

Slitherine has not said anything else about the upcoming game, other than it will be avalalbe for "multiple platforms" and will release "from beyond 2013." If I was a betting person, I'd say that's for next-gen consoles in 2014.

It may not be a new Space Marine-like game, but at this point, I'll take what I can get from this universe.

I hated Dawn of War II. They took the S out of RTS. It was more like an RPG than a strategy game. Bought that game for nothing. I liked Space Marine, but was way too repetitive. The first DoW series is still my favorite.

Space Marine was alright but way too generic. I felt like I was playing a reskinned version of Gears of War.

Gears of War is just dumbed-down Space Marines. Without all the cool extra organs.

Space Marine can copy Gears all it wants to, Gears rips off the general feel of Warhammer 40,000 anyway. That being said, I like both games and their worlds, so I won't insult Gears too much.

I just want a proper turn-based strategy game based directly on the tabletop game already!

It was closest but still didn't compare to the tabletop game in most ways.

For the longest time Games Workshop was against direct translations of the tabletop game, the reason being is they don't want you to be able to pay $60 and then have access to the tabletop game mechanics. They instead want you to invest around 300 or so in a new army.
