LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

New Watch_Dogs Screenshot Will Melt Your Face

Posted on Friday, June 22 @ 11:25:14 Eastern by Alex_Osborn
Ubisoft has just released a single screenshot of their upcoming title Watch Dogs, which is set to launch sometime next year. We've added the stunning image below for you to gawk over, and may I just say, wow does this game look insanely gorgeous.

The publisher has claimed that Watch Dogs is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but I just can't see how the current generation could possibly handle this level of detail without a significant visual downgrade.

What do you think? Is there some magical coding recipe that the devs at Ubisoft have hidden away in their offices, or is the French publisher just attempting to pull the wool over our eyes until the next Xbox and PlayStation are unveiled? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.

But is this a gameplay shot or just pre rendered screen for making the game look good...

I dunno, seems pretty par for the course to be honest. The texture resolution might be really high or something, but it's hard to tell with such a small screenshot. I actually just looked for a larger one and there doesn't seem to be one, but I did see that a bunch of other people are talking about how good it looks. Am I missing something? There isn't any decidedly complex geometry happening here and it's impossible to say how detailed most things are from the low resolution. I guess the sidewalk curve looks nice?

Think about what that engine could pull off without having to worry about all the vehicles, destruction and whatnot.

Standing on the track and having the subway zoom past was incredible in the demo they showed us. It was more beautiful than any still screenshot.

In terms of hardware utilization, the best games on a console always come out at the tail end of the life cycle. That's when all the tricks for squeezing every last bit of bandwidth for all it's worth are discovered and applied.
