Jonathan Blow, the mind behindBraidas well as the upcoming first-person puzzlerThe Witness, isn't a huge fan of Microsoft'snext-gen plans, claiming that theXbox 720is "not strictly about games."
In an interview withEdge Online, Blow explained:
To me they talk about a console that is not strictly about games. It’s trying to be the center of the living room device, which is fine and maybe it’s the right thing for Microsoft to do, business-wise. I don’t know; I actually don’t think it is, but they’ve certainly thought about it more than me! As a place to put the best, highest performing version of our game on, it doesn’t seem as good a choice. If you own an Xbox 360, or at the very least are relatively informed on the happenings within the industry, this statement shouldn't come as a major shock to you. If you pull up the current Xbox dashboard, it's clear that the guys at Microsoft have a whole lot more on their mind than just games when considering the future of the platform.
What is striking, however, is that this has resulted in an timed exclusivity deal between Sony and one of gaming's most forward-thinking indie developers. Might we see other studios follow suit? Could thePS4be the go-to platform for third-party games? We'll just have to wait and see.
