Next Xbox Update Could Include Internet Explorer 9

Posted on Thursday, May 10 @ 12:25:28 Eastern by Keri_Honea

According to Verge sources, Microsoft is testing a console-ified version of Internet Explorer 9 on the Xbox 360. The Xbox already has  Bing with all its limited glory, so Microsoft is looking to beef it up with one of the most hated Internet browsers in existence. As Kinect is already integrated with Bing, it's assumed that IE will also have Kinect functionality.

Does anyone use their consoles (Wii, PS3, handheld, etc) for web browsing? That's kind of why I have a laptop and an iPhone.

More importantly, does this mean we can use IE 9 to download Firefox or Chrome to the Xbox?

First of all a fanboy isn't someone who just happens to play a certain console and secondly the 60 a year is nothing compared to the cost of maintaining and upgrading a PC. I have 2 PCs and I have spent much more on them than I have on all things console related combined

it doesn't really bother me paying 60 bucks a "year" for Xbox live. that is better then dishing out 60 dollars or more a week, or even every month for a new game.

so somehow having XBL means you dont have to buy games? or are you really trying to say that xbl gives you as much value as even the crappier games? its still amazing that people will gladly pay MS for nothing.

Oh that's nice, having a web browser that can f*ck my Xbox 360 up even more. That's why I use Mozilla Firefox, because IE is so easy to obtain viruses.

I switched over to PS3 for any multi-platform console games because I think it's stupid to pay to play online. I guess I'm just spoiled from PC gaming.

I think the browser on the PS3 is neat, but my TV is my computer monitor so I just change the channel if I want to browse.

You get what you pay for. Online support for the PS3 is painfully inferior to what you get from Xbox Live. PCs are a whole other monster and shouldn't really be compared to consoles.
