Next-Gen Thief Reportedly Leaked, Coming Next Year [Update: Confirmed]

Posted on Tuesday, March 5 @ 09:20:58 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

[UPDATE]: Game Informer has just revealed that the cover of their April issue will feature Eidos' Thief reboot, confirming that the game will launch on next-gen consoles in 2014. Check out the debut trailer above.

[Original Story]: It looks like Thief fans have a new entry in the series to look forward to, as Square Enix's alleged upcoming announcement regarding a fresh installment in the franchise has be leaked early by Russian website GamesManiac.

The game is apparently just called Thief (that's right, no "4" at the end) and will launch on next-gen consoles as well as the PC sometime next year. Game Informer is expected to reveal the cover of its latest issue today, and word on the net is that it will feature this new game from Eidos.

Bear in mind that Eidos and Square Enix have not confirmed any of this, so be sure to stay tuned to GameRevolution for future updates on this new entry in the Thief series. In the meantime, check out more of the game's alleged screens right here.

I felt they did a great job with Deus Ex, but it did seem as if they were a bit rushed with its development and they couldn't add as much content as they would've liked. Following the success of that game, though, maybe they'll have more leverage to do more instead of trying to polish it up so much.

Thief is one of those games I've always heard awesome things about, but that I never played. I didn't have a gaming pc when it was around so hopefully this new game is good so I can finally experience the universe.

Same boat as you. Amazing reviews for the original thief but I never played it. It might be on GOG tho.

I have been forcing myself through Thief 2, but it is so old and just...bad compared to newer games that I have the same feeling playing it as I would rolling through mud. Not to say it's a terrible game just....really dated.

Yeah that's the problem with those games. Where the style of its core gameplay has evolved so much more than say a FPS or adventure game, its hard to look past the series' age.

I could understand this. The game is pretty old and if you didn't got the game while it was new then you'd have a hard time getting into the game. But you do have to give it to the sound designers of the series. I *really* had a hard time getting through the haunted levels in Thief 1.

Everything is just so stiff and mechanical, and those Quake 2 engine models and textures...I'm mainly having trouble navigating the levels. I'm stuck on the second missions because that warehouse is so vast and huge. I can see how that was amazing back in the day of extremely linear adventure games like Tomb Raider.
