NFS To Get Out of the Car, Goes Walkabout

Posted on Monday, June 6 @ 13:10:30 Eastern by Sebastian_Moss

Need For Speed is a driving game; it's all about getting from A to B as fast as you can in a car on foot. NFS: The Run has revealed just how it got its name, with EA showing the protagonist stepping out of his car and going for a little jog.

After leaving his car, the player is chased by some unsavory characters in what seems more like a race on foot than Driver-style openness. PS3 gameplay shows some parkour initiated by pressing triangle, before the player returns to a car and drives off into the distance.

Can EA pull of a NFS that leaves the car? Let GR know below.

I'm not going to lie, that seems completely and utterly pointless.

    Idiotic.
On a related note I just found out that if you try to post a single word comment you get the following message: "Please correct the following errors before submitting your comment: Seems like this comment is spam!" So there.

Nahh...it will feel just thrown on or it will detract from time that could have been spent perfecting the driving aspects of the game. Gran Turismo, Burnout, Project Gotham - All great racing games with a focus on getting the driving right. I hope NFS doesn't waste time on a gameplay element that will only lower their review score in the long run, but wait... it's EA they got cash to burn and tons more NFSs to churn out

It could work. I don't see a link to the video, so can't see where they are going with it.
I can see it working if you car breaks down, crashes, etc. LIke the article describes, you run away and find a new car. Could also make "shortcuts" to races, since you may be able to cross a building as opposed to go around whereever the street leads.

Yeah, if the multi-million dollar super car breaks down, you can get out of it and walk to the dealership to ask about your warranty. Awesome!!
