Nicktoons' Getting an MLB Game

Posted on Thursday, May 5 @ 12:51:14 Eastern by Blake_Morse

I've got good new for all you fans of America's favorite past time who happen to also be big cartoon nerds; 2K Play is about to make your ultimate gaming experience by combining the two along with licensed Nickelodeon Nicktoons characters to create Nicktoons MLB.

Classic favorites such as Spongebob, Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim, will play alongside their new school couterparts Fanboy, Chum Chum and Dudley Puppy. But it's not all toons as MLB pros like Matt Holliday (St. Louis Cardinals), Andre Ethier (Los Angeles Dodgers), Miguel Cabrera (Detroit Tigers), Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves), Cliff Lee (Philadelphia Phillies), and Robinson Cano (New York Yankees) will be taking the field along with them. I really hope I get to see Zim fry one of these guys with a laser, but I think it's unlikely since this will no doubt be a family friendly title.

Famous stadiums like Fenway Park will be digitized to stand alongside more conceptual and creative arenas like Frosty Freeze field. It will also be the first baseball to have full Kinect comparability. So don't worry, you'll get plenty of chances to break stuff around your house during a nine inning game.

I'm actually quite curious to see how this works out. Mario sports games are always a blast, but licensed games like these have shown a lack of polish/enjoyment in the past.  There's no word yet on a specific launch date, but you should look for Nicktoons MLB to hit stores this Summer 2011. That's when we'll find out if this game can run with the major leaguers.

Because when you want to put a kid to sleep, let them watch baseball.

Or if anyone wants to go to sleep, for that matter. Baseball can drag on for a loooong while.
