Nintendo Gears Up For Wii U Comeback, 3D Mario To Launch By October

Posted on Friday, May 3 @ 09:15:00 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Don't count Nintendo and the Wii U out just yet.

The second half of 2013 is going to be a big year for the company's tablet-centric console thanks to a swell of new content that will make the console a compelling proposition to consumers this holiday season. According to CVG, Nintendo is preparing a major marketing campaign that aims to give the Wii U the push it so desperately needs.

The company has a hefty slate of releases planned from summer up through the end of year, including the long-awaited 3D Mario title that is expected to release before October and will be playable at E3. The outlet goes on to add that while there's no official confirmation whether or not the new Mario Kart will be ready by year's end, it too will be playable at E3.

Nintendo UK PR director Shelly Pearce told CVG:

From July onwards we will launch a succession of Wii U titles and we will promote these extensively until the end of the year. Marketing activity will include TV, print, online and PR as well as comprehensive experiential and social media campaigns.

We have a strong line up planned for Wii U in the second half of 2013 including the likes of Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U. We are looking forward to launching these in the UK and for the opportunity to showcase the full potential of Wii U.

Remember when the 3DS wasn't doing so hot and everyone was crying doom and gloom for the handheld? All it took was a price cut along with the release of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. If Nintendo can pull a similar thing with the Wii U this year, they may very well be sitting pretty going into 2014.
