Nintendo Reportedly Combining Console And Handheld Hardware Divisions

Ever since Nintendo released the GameBoy, the company has operated almost like two separate entities, one in the console space and the other in the realm of handhelds. According to a report fromNikkei, that will be changing very soon, as the Big N is planning to restructure, bringing together its console and handheld hardware divisions.
A translation of the report explains:
In an effort to create more innovative and attractive products, Nintendo Co. will combine the development segments for its home video game consoles and handheld game devices. The restructuring will allegedly take place in February, and will combine 130 employees from Nintendo's console division with 150 from its handheld branch to form a single, unifieddevelopmentteam."The two teams will eventually be integrated and the segment will be organized by function, such as circuits, mechanisms and design," the report adds.
What do you think of this supposed move by Nintendo? Does this mean we might see more unity between the 3DS and Wii U? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
