Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

"Not A Fat Chance" Crysis 3 Will Be Coming To Wii U

Posted on Wednesday, April 25 @ 10:55:54 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

While Nintendo claims that the Wii U will cater to the hardcore gamer, it doesn't look like Crysis 3 will be aiding the cause, as developer Crytek has no plans to bring their popular shooter franchise to the upcoming console.

Speaking to Destructoid, Crytek's Director of Creative Development, Rasmus Hoejengaard made it clear that the team isn't even considering the possibility of porting their upcoming third installment in the Crysis series to the Wii U. In fact, Hoejengaard went so far as to say that there's "not a fat chance." Sorry Nintendo loyalists, it looks like you'll just have to settle for more Mario, Zelda and the occasional third party title. Hey, at least Darksiders II and Assassin's Creed 3 will be coming to the platform, right?

I'm sure at this point Nintendo fans have become quite adept at learning to take what they can get.

I think the biggest problem here is that the "next" gen console is getting this-gen games (or not even getting them in this case).

Are there any Nintendo loyalist anymore? I mean honestly. I do not know a core gamer that only has a Wii.

That because the Wii is not for core gamers but for casual gamers.

The Wii isn't even for gamers. It's for Dads and Moms, Uncles and Grandparents to buy, then play once a year unless the family come over with the kids. It's online support is crumby at best, and the endless Mario/Zelda/Metroid line of games that will inevitably be released is mind numbingly old after 20 years of reiterations. It's a gimmick console with a huge install base that doesn't use it or even buy games.

I think they should take the concept of releasing a last-gen game in HD for current-gen consoles but instead make Crysis 3 in LD and release it for the Wii U.

    There, I just saved Nintendo.

Can't imagine Nintendo living up to their lofty goal of getting "major third party support" and "hardcore gamers". Considering all AAA next-gen titles will be made for ps4/720 it won't be possible to have them on wiiU unless they want a dumbed down version like wii would get. I'm sure hardcore gamers will really dig watered down ports and arkham asylum 2 years after it came out.

Is this really news? Violent, high graphics game not coming to Nintendo? As for a graphically toned down version of a game years after release... meh, remember Doom 64?

I don't think you remembered what Doom looked like. Granted the original Doom is better than the 64 version but I'm pretty sure the 64 version has better graphics.

    *dons PC elitist sweater*
Is anyone really going to buy Crysis 3 for anything other than PC? I mean, c'mon.

I was more going along the lines of all the hype of a violent game like Doom going to a Nintendo console and we forgot that the game wasnt anything new.

I'm really getting tired of all this "Does nintendo even have fans? They've abandoned the hardcore." type comment. It's really all beside the point.

Long ago Nintendo realized that taking on Microsoft and Sony on directly would only put them in a weak position. They're simply not playing the same game as Xbox and Sony. Instead, Sony and Mircosoft is trying to join Nintendo in the market.

While Nintendo has stated that they've ignored the 'hardcore' market to their detriment and will try to rectify that, that doesn't mean that they're going make the biggest most monstrous system that can crush the PS3 and anything else that the next gen can come up with. Nintendo has struggled to put forward pretty visuals and they were severely limited because form factor was more important to the Wii than power.

Well, they're beefing it up (a little) while keep their core demographic happy (cheapskate casual gamers/hard core gamer's mothers).

If you want Gears of Honor Elite Warfare in Crisis mode then get an *actual* hardcore gamer machine. Really though, Nintendo will be aiming for the same things this generation as last. You're still going to get the PSX360 but you're also going to get a WiiU and probably buy a few more games cause it'll be slightly beefier than your Wii.

Hey! I am a Nintendo fan and have only had Nintendo hardware: a GameBoy, a SNES, a GameBoy Advanced SP, and a DS lite (and will be getting a 3DS soon). Nintendo has given me thousands of hours of gaming pleasure with simple light weight games (Nintendo games), let's face it Nintendo has never been a core or hardcore games company. Nintendo has always been a family oriented company and not a core gamer company thus they make: Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Pokemon, and the Wii games that everyone swears they hate. Good clean fun all of it, but it sure the hell ain't "Hard Core".

PS: PC's rule the core games!
