Nvidia Demonstrates Borderlands 2 Streaming Play On Project Shield

Posted on Wednesday, February 6 @ 15:16:53 Eastern by

This video demonstrating the way Project Shield can stream gameplay from your home PC to anywhere you are with your Nvidia handheld raises some questions. Specifically, can you play your PC games while you're in the bathroom?

Will from Nvidia isn't sitting on the can, but that's where I'd be if I were testing Project Shield for myself. I suppose other questions are in the air as well. Can you stream gameplay if you have an AMD-equipped PC? Are there limitations within Steam regarding games you can play on the Shield?

Is this something PC gamers even want? Thanks to tipster elmoreoocyte for sending the video in.

I now understand more fully just *how* this "handheld" could play top end PC games. Since my PC has AMD chips I would be interested in seeing if this would work with my tower (it would limit market share if it didn't).

Understanding how it works, I now have absolutely no interest in it.

And glad I could help pad your post count, Dan.

You have to have a 6 series Nvidia card with Keppler technology. Your AMD won't help you here unfortunately.

As far as I understand you have to have a nvidia 600 series card ot use. I have it but I just am not sure if im interested in project shield. I spend most of my time at my computer anyways.

Now if it was $99 I would think about it. It only has a 720p screen. It states it can only be used ont he same wifi as your pc but If I can manage to get it work over a virtual network while im outside the house I would be very interested in it. Say am at school, interested, or a friend house I could pull up my "shield" and play my games at home. But this is something as a techie Im going to have to setup myself nvidia isnt doing the brunt of that setup work.

Although its not listed here nvidia had talked about a "Nvidia Grid" system in which they would steam games from a cloud server to the shield. Kinda like "onlive"

I just figured it was something similar to DISH network anywhere, where you stream live tv to your laptop/computer/phone over IP. I guess the latency with inputs might present some issues for videogames where mistiming could prove fatal but if all I'm doing is playing a handheld in front of my PC I could just be playing at then I don't see much of a point.
