Oculus, with its self-titled Oculus Rift, a stereoscopic 3D headset which will be compatible with the Doom 3 BFG Edition, launched today a Kickstarter campaign "to speed the distribution of early dev kits to game developers and enthusiats around the world along with a copy of Doom 3 BFG Edition".

Their goal of reaching a quarter million dollars by the end of August has already been accomplished, short of a single day and with 30 days to go. At the time of this writing, it will be receiving a pledge of at least $289,945.

Epic Games, Unity, id Software, and Valve has shown their support for the Oculus Rift, which touts itself as the first "truly immersive Virtual Reality" headset that will "at a price everyone can afford". Let's hope that this will means it will lower than $400.
