Ouya Dev Kits Ship In December, Launch Date Imminent

Posted on Friday, November 30 @ 12:08:01 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

The Wii U has been sitting alone in the next generation for a few weeks now, but the Ouya will soon join in on the fun.

Ouya development kits are shipping out to developers across the planet on December 28th, just in-time to meet its originally planned December date.

At a reasonable $99, the Ouya's futuristic cube shape will house a quad-core ARM processor, 1GB of memory, and a GeForce GPU. In addition, a sleek controller will be included. The hardware is aimed at playing Android-based titles, but already has an exclusive line-up of 19 games.

This was such an ambitious project to take on. I really hope it turns out to be successful.

It has the same CPU/GPU & RAM setup as my sister's mobile phone. And I'm supposed to hook it up to my TV? Enjoy your $99 Angry Birds "console" everyone.

It has more RAM than the PS3 and Xbox 360 and has as many CPU cores as the 360 and Vita. No wonder it took so long for Angry Birds to come out for the PS3 and 360. ;-P

It's all about the GPU man, plus the number of cores doesn't really matter as much as the power of said cores.

Aaaaaaaaand I'm not interested. For me the entire appeal of an android game is playing it on my phone. But I'm sure it will sell somewhat, obviously all those people donated on kickstarter for a reason.

I'd like to try this out. It does look interesting and the project is bold and ambitious. I do hope it does succeed somewhere.

In regards to trying out, I mean in a "play at a friend's house" kind of way. Or get it for free sort of thing.
