Pakistan Bans Selling Call Of Duty And Medal Of Honor

Posted on Wednesday, January 23 @ 14:54:31 Eastern by Keri_Honea

The All Pakistan CD, DVD, Audio Cassette Traders and Manufacturers Association (APCDACTM) has banned both Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Medal of Honor: Warfighter in Pakistan. The group dropped the banhammer because the games depict both Pakistan and its intelligence agency as supporting Al Qaeda and other jihadist organizations.

The following is the statement the group issued to game retailer owners:

The Association has always boycotted these types of films and games. These (games) have been developed against the country’s national unity and sanctity. The games (Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Call of Duty: Black Ops II) have been developed against Pakistan, and the association has completely banned their sale. Shopkeepers are warned and will be responsible for the consequences if found purchasing or selling these games.

Saleem Memon, president of the APCDACTM branch in Karachi, explained that numerous complaints stimulated the group to boycott the games. "The problem is that there are things that are against Pakistan and they have included criticism of our army. They show the country in a very poor light," he told a foreign news outlet.

If you've played either of these games, then these sentiments should not exactly come at a surprise. According to Fox News, some of the outcry against these games are more extreme than that, with an "unnamed Pakistani security official" believing that the games are psychological warfare with Pakistani youth.

"These games are an effort to malign the minds of youth against Pakistan," he said "Not only should the original be banned, but the pirated version sales should be blocked also."

With the extreme level of piracy present in the 3rd world, I am CERTAIN this ban will completely rid Pakistan of this game.

#1 Most of these islamic countries already ban games of this nature - and movies. They can't stand White men shooting people in "whogivesafukastan".

#2 Most of the youth in these countries are so poor THEY CAN'T AFFORD to buy or play these games anyway - so it's no big loss. Have you ever taken a look at the world maps that show where the games are being played on Xbox Live? China is black. Most Arab countries are black. Africa is black etc. They are only banning the game to make a protest statement.

#3 They were basically aiding Bin Ladin. You want me to believe Bin Ladin was camped out in a massive house nearby the Pakistan "West Point" and no one knew about it?

Might as well ban ZERO DARK THIRTY too.

The reason few people are playing in China isn't because they can't afford it, it's because consoles haven't ever been officially released there yet. They exist but they are mostly hacked and so don't go online. The Chinese are very, very into video games, but they aren't playing CoD. Mostly MMOs.

Thanks for the lesson on China... I ONLY LIVED THERE FOR A FEW YEARS, AND ATTENDED FUDAN UNIVERSITY TO LEARN MANDARIN AND BUSINESS IN SHANGHAI.

I TOTALLY DID NOT NOTICE the stores bootlegging consoles or games.

I also never bothered to wonder why China PRODUCES ALL THIS SHIT and sells it to ******* American kids - while their government ensures their TV's are under complete control and never showing lewdness or excessive violence.

Haha, Fudan eh? Look at the big brain on BigTruckSeries! I've been here for over 8 years already, so technically I have you beat.
I am always surprised when I log into BO2 and see China completely dark, but living in Shanghai I am certain it has nothing to do with lack of money or censorship. I just had a chat with some video game execs here and their explination for why consoles have never entered the Chinese market has everything to do with licensing issues: namely rampant piracy and the politics involved with having to partner with a local company. You need the right guanxi in order to make any headway here and the big companys just don't wanna deal with that crap.
So I guess I will just have to settle with getting my ass handed to me by the japanese in BlackOps 2.

If you really are there now...that's cool. I had an apartment at 288 Guo Ding Road down the block from Fudan. Had a motorcycle too. Chinese girlfriends came over all the time and I showed em a really good time (wore em out).

Otherwise, I doubt the Chinese are worried about the piracy. I believe it's due to the PRC not liking the difficulty of controlling the online community. They freakin' blocked Youtube for God's sakes.
