Paul Dini Not Available For Next Batman Game

Posted on Monday, August 6 @ 11:50:10 Eastern by Keri_Honea

There has been nothing official in the wind about Warner Bros. and Rocksteady developing another Batman game, but just in case they have been thinking about, writer Paul Dini won't be contributing.

Dini, the award-winning comic writer and writer for Batman: The Animated Series as well as both Arkham games, announced on Twitter that he is not working on another Arkham game. After what must have been a flurry of questions, he later wrote a blog post explaining his situation.

The last talk I had with Warner Interactive about future games was while I was doing promotion for Arkham City last September. Naturally as there was such a rush of interest about Arkham City, everyone was asking me about a third game, and frankly, I had been wondering about that myself.

When I asked about the possibility of working on a third game I was told that as Rocksteady had just finished wrapping the second one, it would be a while before everyone was ready to sit down and discuss future plans. That said, it was intimated that for future games, Warner and Rocksteady might not be looking as much to freelance writers, the message being, that if had something else interesting coming my way, I might want to take it.

He later explained that after Rocksteady annouced the Harley Quinn DLC and the buzz about a possible Arkham prequel, he assumed that the deveoper and publisher had already hired writers and, therefore, went on to find other work. As a result, he is booked up until 2013 at the earliest. If Rocksteady really hadn't filled the writing shoes and was hoping Dini would work on a future Batman game with them, then this is clearly a case of the right hand being unaware of the left.

This is great for Paul Dini, of course, but as a fan of his writing, it saddens me a little that he won't be able to work on a future Arkham game any time soon. In many ways, I hope that Rocksteady was not planning on a future title just yet.

Im not a huge batman fan. Idk what it was about him but the only character Ive ever liked was two face and thats because of his duality complex.(ok and maybe Alfred)

I will say however Arkhum City did present in my opinion a batman people can learn to really like and there new engine was amazing on my new sli system. Tessellation mixed with physx. there is wind in the city(something that needs to be done in more games to bring immersion) His cape flys around in it snow builds up into slushy realistic piles and even falls on your cape, sticks, and then melts. So even though I dont really have a love affair for batman Arkhum City was a technological gem.

Maybe they're waiting for next-gen for the 3rd game? While I want another Batman game right now, maybe waiting is a good idea afterall.

I agree. I feel the same with Halo 4. Halo 4 could have waited until the next gen of Xbox launched. It would have been a great seller if they bundled it with the next gen system. Unfortunately, 343 Industries decided to release during the holidays.

    I have a feeling that wasn't entirely 343's call.
