E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

PC Gaming Is Fastest Growing Platform Says EA CEO

Posted on Saturday, July 21 @ 12:52:47 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

This console generation has lingered far beyond its expected lifespan with the Xbox 360 in particular hitting a 7-year milestone later this year. A lot of gamers—including myself—have found safe haven in PC hardware where technology isn't hindered by the birth of each generation, so it's no surprise when EA CEO John Riccitiello shared that PC gaming is growing more than any other platform.

While speaking to CNBC Riccitiello stated the following:

The fastest growing platform for video games today is the PC, but it's growing through subscription, through microtransactions, through downloads.

Not all of the reason behind this trend lie behind horsepower, either. A lot of it has to do with the distinct content delivery models of consoles and PC. There's a dramatic shift in how games are delivered and PC gaming is  spearheading the evolution. Dota 2, one of the most anticipated games of 2012, is free-to-play with a microtransaction model that has already proved profitable during beta. Last year, Team Fortress 2, one of PC's most popular games, made the transition to free-to-play and quickly made valuable profits from its in-game store.

Equally as important is the way games are delivered. Virtually every game on PC can be purchased, downloaded, and installed within minutes and managed through easy-to-use content libraries such as Steam and Origin. As we've seen with recent PlayStation Store updates, Sony is migrating to digital, but is taking a while to get its wheels spinning. It's really only a matter of time before every platform offers the option, but PC already has the system figured out.

A good reason behind new consoles taking so long to release is how carefully Microsoft and Sony need to plan their course of action to avoid being beaten by PC for even longer. Given how successful these new trends have been, rest assured we'll see them impact the design of future consoles, so don't be surprised.

I'm glad I made the switch to (predominately) PC gaming.

That being said, I spent the last hour uninstalling and reinstalling fvcking AMD drivers because their autoupdate downloaded some Beta bullshit that made my Catalyst stop working.

    Still rather be PC gaming.

This happens at the end of every console life-cycle. Although, I do have to give Steam credit for making PC gaming seem like a good value (despite the cost of a gaming rig).

You got to realize to that there are company's on the net that sell game codes for old games diablo 2 Warcraft . My friend showed me the site last week 5 bucks for a game code for diablo 2. That being said. Consoles don't let you pick and choose through a lot Of older games that people are still willing to play. If only there was a console that could do that now. Things like this excite me for the coming years! If gladly pay for old games that I grew up with seeing As how how they Are now extremely hArd to find

I like having digital copies of games on PC, whereas I have physical copies on consoles.

No way, you mean the platform that continues to grow, update hardware, and give better performance is the PC platform?

For real when all those industry heads called that pc gaming was dead was just a stupid backwards thinking stunt. PC gaming will never die. Weather that means getting shitty console ports or not.

i will agree while although the PC usually will give you a better investment and performance microsoft is driving a hard price bargain

right now they sell xboxs at $200 with a 2 years xboxlive contract. Most of my xbox friends will already buy two years of xbox live so this is just like them just buying it for $200, and now the new rumor is they are going to drop the price down to $100

Its this type of aggressive pricing that will keep consoles competitive(even though I dont want them to be)
