Persona 4: Golden Boosts Japanese Vita Sales

Posted on Wednesday, June 20 @ 12:14:43 Eastern by

Japanese gamers were fortunate enough to receive Persona 4: Golden last week on PlayStation Vita. Atlus's update to the PS2 RPG performed... fairly well at market and even gave the Vita hardware a bump on Media Create sales charts.

Persona 4: Golden topped the charts with 137,076 units sold through. Those are healthy one-week figures for a Vita-exclusive title, belying the stagnating sales Sony has seen in the land of the rising sun. As a result, the PlayStation Vita sold through 34,459 units landing in second place behind the Nintendo 3DS.

... I'll probably buy like... five Vitas and... 10 copies of Persona 4: Golden when it lands in the West October 23rd. So... yeah.

I first read that as "Golden Boots" and assumed Lethean would buy it ASAP.

I don't have a Vita, but I may need to buy one when Golden comes out. Persona 4 is easily one of my top games, and I'm a sucker for new content. P3P made some really cool changes, and it felt like they actually put a lot of effort into it, rather than just porting it. I can only assume Golden will be the same.

Golden does the usual Atlus reissue treatment and adds a character, a whole bunch of cutscenes, new events, and a ton of new voice acting. This is actually an upgrade on the PS2 version whereas there were some things that had to be cut from P3P, so yeah, get a Vita!

Is it wrong for me to feel like I need to buy a Vita just for this?

Not at all. The fact that these games can last you upwards of 100 hours means they're the perfect excuses to pick up a new system.

First game I bought for my Vita was Persona 3 Portable.

Considering I know of hundreds of people in the US who are buying Vitas for P4:tG, this doesn't surprise me at all.

For Japan, 137k in opening week is way huge success. You'd take first place 2-3 times out of a month with that number.

Now it needs something else to follow up this success. When is that Hatsune Miku bundle out?

    Oh...August... :(

I think this and ACIII: Liberation white Vita bundle will move a couple hundred thousand hardware units this fall.

Is the AC3 bundle even happening in Japan? I don't think it is. I could be wrong, but that'd be a weird-ass bundle to see here O_O The only announced bundle I've heard of for Japan is the white Hatsune Miku one.
