PlayStation 3 Worldwide Sales Hit 70 Million

Posted on Friday, November 16 @ 08:43:02 Eastern by Alex_Osborn
Sony has announced today that the company has reached a new sales milestone with the PlayStation 3.

Since the console launched back in 2006, over 70 million units have been sold worldwide, and as of November 11th, over 15 million PlayStation Move controllers have been sold. On the software front, sales clock in at 595 million worldwide. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Interestingly enough, just last month Microsoft made a similar announcement regarding the Xbox 360, touting the fact that console sales had surpassed the 70 million mark. It looks like Sony's only inches behind the competition at this point.

Will they find a way to pull ahead, or are they destined to come in third place this generation? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Destined to be 3rd place. Not trying to sound like an ass but how would Sony fall short to Nintendo's console. I'm just speaking out of logic.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony pulls ahead of Microsoft. I mean when was the last time Microsoft released a non-Kinect title, aside from Halo? I think most core gamers can agree that Sony's software lineup has been better than Microsoft' s since the Kinect.

Except for the inconvenient fact that just about every other third party title released for the PS3 is unplayable due to bugs, crashes, framerate issues or lag. I only use myine for its media capabilities.

Video games in general are buggy now. I can't think of one that's unplayable because of this. I know your go to answer would be Skyrim. I'll give you that, but it's not Sony's fault that Bethesda does not know how to code for the PS3, and can't fix a 5 year problem with their engine.
