LATEST FEATURESBeing A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.
Before Microsoft and Sony do something regarding their future in the video game business, I wanted to write, and I've wanted it for a long time now, but other things kept getting in my way, and fearing that tomorrow might be too late, today will have to do.

PlayStation 4 To Cost Around $400, According To Japanese Newspaper

Rumor has it that the next-generation PlayStation will be priced somewhere in the ballpark of $400.
According to Japanese newspaper, Asahi Shimbun (translated by The Verge), the device will bear a price tag of 40,000 Yen, which converts to approximately $430. Back when the PS3 first launched, it was priced at 60,000 Yen in Japan, and $600 in the United States, so if history (and this report) prove to be true, then Sony will likely price the device at an even $400.
How does this price of entry sound to you? Would you be willing to part with that much cash to get the console on day one? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.
I'm gonna wait to see what kind of specs are gonna be on the thing. I love my PS3, but if Sony is going to follow suit with what MS is rumored to be doing, I think I am just going to miss out entirely on the next generation of consoles. I enjoy the games I already have, my PS2 still works just fine, and playing yet another bunch of sequels of already overdone games is not worth it to me to lay down that kinda cash. Especially not if there are silly restrictions like a constant Internet connection, or no used games... F*ck that sh*t. Gaming just doesn't seem to be as awesome as it used to... Hey, wait, there's my bookshelf, and all the literature I have to catch up on...
I think this will force companies (cough Nintendo) to lower the prices of their games significantly a few months after launch. It's either that or their sales dry up totally a month after it drops.
As with the last two consoles I've bought, I'll wait until they're selling them for %50 off their initial price before dropping the cash, I find that works for me.
I would imagine they will continue the (in my opinion stupid) two-tiered system. I would imagine the cheaper one will be 400 and the premium model being 450 or 500. With the ps3 in its current state the lower-end system is fine. 160 gigs is tolerable. The 4 gig Xbox is a joke. If they release multi-tiered but both versions are good (like the ps3 now) I suppose it's alright.
The 4GB Xbox confounds the **** outta' me. It literally costs $8 for a 4GB thumb drive. How much more could a funny-looking SSD cost? The cost of materials is probably less than $5/console, so... is it just to piss people off? Confuse people who don't know what GB's are?
Why are there four Packers in my Nintendo Kinectbox?
Likewise the Vita's price in Japan is 25,000 yen and the American website is $250. The console prices do tend to line up. Hopefully this rumor is true, because that's priced to move, in my opinion.
If the features are right, I'm in. But if it does little more than offer a graphical bump up from the PS3 that currently serves as my media hub, I don't need it. I'll sink the $400 into buying up cheap older games, which would last for years because of how goddamn long this console generation has been.
If the rumored specs are true you will be seeing DirectX 11 games that only PC gamers get on the next-gen consoles. The hardware is there, but of course they still aren't as powerful as the most beefed up PCs out there. Still, console gamers will no longer get this crappy end of games. It also goes beyond graphics. New hardware means better AI, bigger open worlds, better networking features, and multi-tasking. I'd like to switch from my game to the browser and find a FAQ and go back without pulling out any other device.
It's been 'rumored' to launch at $399 for months now, so much so that if Sony don't launch it at $399 people would be disappointed, even if they were intending to go $349.
Not that any of these prices matter to me, mind. Over here in Aus we'll still get the 'extra money for sweet **** all' tax and it'll end up a $500 console here, with $140 games.
Don't really care that much, though. I might buy the next generation of consoles WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER. 'Gaming', as a thing, died back in 2010. Now all we get is $10 online codes and Call of Battlefield 17: Revolution Retribution Reloaded Revelations Re'reuncreative****s.
Ive gotten to the point where my computer is a beast of a machine that will easily overpower new consoles. I already bought a Wii U, but Im not sure about Sony and Microsoft. Price point, controller, and how slick their interfaces are gonna be will be a big deciding point for which (if either) console I pick up. I was a PS2 guy, then a 360 guy...I have no idea where Ill end up this time.
