E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

PlayStation Vita Hasn't Broken One Million In Japan, TGS To Focus on Vita

Not quite...

In Japan, handhelds typically dominate over consoles. The 3DS is selling extremely well in Japan, after getting off to a rocky start. The PlayStation Vita, however, is not, and is suffering from an even rockier start than the 3DS had.

In fact, eight months after the PlayStation Vita's launch, only 790K units have been sold in Japan. Sales are picking up, with the PlayStation Vita seeing its best weekly sales since launch with the release of Persona 4: The Golden.

Software is struggling as well, with Persona 4 being the best-selling PlayStation Vita title yet, at a mere 188K units sold in Japan.

Sony sees the hardware numbers in line with initial expectations, and plan to focus heavily on the PlayStation Vita during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show in September. Sony also promises a handful of big Vita-related announcements at another "Game Heaven", said SCEJ CEO Hiroshi Kawano in a recent Famitsu interview.

Still, that doesn't help the PlayStation Vita's situation in the rest of the world. Sony seemed to have dropped the ball during their E3 press conference, only showing Assassins' Creed III: Liberation and nothing more than a logo of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Declassified

There is some hope for the Vita in Europe, as Sony has just dated their gamescom press conference for August 14th. But with a supposed new PlayStation 3 redesign and possible price drop, there may not be much room left over for Sony's new handheld during the show.

Things will eventually pick up, once more software is released. But for now, the PlayStation Vita isn't living up to its potential.

Why doesn't Sony just cut the damn prices? Is it really that difficult for them?

There's a lot going on in the Vita. I don't think this is a case of early-adopter-inflation as it was with the 3DS. Sony just might not have the room to cut the price.

I really would like to see the Vita do better across the map. It's a wonderful piece of hardware, probably my favorite new "console" in decades (because that's how long it takes the cycle anymore :P).

I'd buy one if there were more games worth a damn. Currently there are only two that I'm interested in, and the only one more coming out this year. Three games isn't enough for me to consider dropping $250+ on the thing. Sure, I could play the older PS games on it, but I still have my backwards compatible PS2 sitting on the shelf next to my 360.

I think the handheld market is just repeating history. Or rather, Sony is repeating history.
The PSP never beat the DS, because the DS focused on games, while the PSP was trying to fight like a console in the portable ring, going for power and extra features (The system was basically a portable PS2). It looks like the same thing is happening now. Sony still seems to be using the same strategy for Vita that they did with the PSP (Vita basically being a portable PS3), and for that, they still can't quite put a dent in the competition.

Games are still the main focus of the 3DS, and that's what sells it. With the Vita... I hear more about 'Transfarring' than I do about games that actually use it.
