PlayStation Vita Hits 1.2 Million Units Sold Worldwide

Posted on Tuesday, February 28 @ 07:27:28 Eastern by

After a strong initial sales surge in Asia, the PlayStation Vita took a backseat to the Nintendo 3DS and its Monster Hunter game. But after an extremely strong launch in Western markets, the PlayStation Vita has reached a respectable 1.2 million units sold.

On top of the hardware numbers, Sony has revealed that 2 million units of software have been sold between retail and the digitially available titles on the PlayStation Store.

If you've been listening to GameRevolution Radio, you'd know that the GR staff is smitten by Sony's new device. I've even predicted it to be the "next big thing", having potential to reach PS2-level sales figures. While these initial numbers are indeed a good sign, it will be years--and a significant price drop--before the Vita reaches mass market appeal.

Tell GR: Have you picked up a PlayStation Vita?

This device has so much more going for it than the PSP. It's obvious Sony has put more behind the Vita in its first week in the US than it had ever done for the PSP. I love mine.

I think Sony has to keep the device in the media in order to keep the momentum high enough to guarantee it's success. the Vigorous marketing described here -
is a major factor. But there's no doubt the device a must have, I'm loving it.

I picked up a Vita at a midnight release and was extremely excited. But on the second day I was having issues with the front touch screen not working and random freezes. I was able to return it to Gamestop without any hassle (surprise!!!) and my second one has been working flawlessly. Even with the first one being glitchy I was in love with the Vita. I am seriously impressed with everything thus far (Lumines and Rayman being the foremost) and literally cannot get over how gorgeous everything looks on the OLED screen. I've been hyping it up with friends and co-workers at every chance I get and I am really looking forward to the future of the Vita because it has so much potential. Now if they port Skyrim to it my life will officially end where I'll be left jobless, my girlfriend leaving me and homeless turning tricks on the street for electricity.

    Skyrim on the Vita?
They'll definitely release it, about the same time as Rock Band Vita.

Yes, I bought the First Edition Bundle, but it hasn't arrived yet to my country, I should be getting around mid-March I hope. I bought Wipeout 2048 along with it, been thinking on getting FIFA, Lumines and Uncharted. Sure buys for me will be MK Vita and Gravity Rush when they are released.
