Pokemon Black & White 2 Fly Off Shelves In Japan, Third Best DS Launch

Posted on Tuesday, June 26 @ 10:50:07 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

To no one's surprise, Pokemon Grey Black & White 2 saw an incredibly successful launch in Japan, selling a whopping 1,618,621 copies in its first two days. This makes the game the third most impressive launch for the DS ever, behind its predecessor (the fastest selling DS game) which managed to rake in 2,637,285 million sales over the first couple of days of its launch.

Sure, the DS install base in Japan is massive, and the 3DS community is growing at a rapid rate, but just imagine how huge the spike in sales for Nintendo's latest handheld would be if the latest two Pokemon titles were developed for the 3DS.

Never underestimate the selling power of those cute little monsters.

This officially makes Black & White 2 the best selling game of 2012 thus far, serving as the only title to surpass one million sales in Japan this year. Though, I feel like lumping both games into a single sum is sort of cheating.

This unstoppable games duo is set to launch later this year in the west.

Reminds me of Dragon Quest way back in the 90s. At a time in japan it was illegal to sell them during school days due to kids skipping class to buy them.

They count the copies of Wii Sports (and other crappy box in games) sold with the console along with individual copies.

True, and it doesn't have the benefit that other titles get from being on multiple platforms, so I guess it evens out.

Japan had Wii Sports not bundled with the Wii, but they all bought it anyway.
