Prey 2 Still Not Canceled, Currently "In Limbo"

Posted on Monday, October 15 @ 13:27:00 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

The development of Prey 2 has been a sad, sad story. After wowing critics at E3 last year, the game went dark for quite some time, with rumors regarding its cancellation. Toss in a healthy helping of alleged corporate drama and you've got one project that certainly hasn't had the smoothest development cycle. Last we heard, the game was delayed indefinitely, which is obviously never a good sign.

Fortunately, Human Head designer Nathan Cheever broke the silence earlier today with a Tweet that confirms Prey 2 is not dead... yet, "only in limbo". Sure, that may not be the most reassuring string of words you've ever heard, but it's better than nothing, right?

Are you still holding out hope—like me—or have you accepted the fact that we'll likely never see this game come to completion? Let us know in the comments below.

This series cannot catch a break--the original Prey was in development for over a decade, and its sequel seems to be handily keeping pace.

Let me put it this way: between Prey's inception and its release, Valve software was founded, developed and released Half-Life, created Steam, and developed and released Half-Life 2.

Sorry, I'm still not explaining this right. In 1997, Prey demoed their static portal game play at E3. Nine years later, they released Prey with the exact same static portals as a selling point. Just one year after that, Valve released a game entirely about portals, called Portal, in which players portal through the world by placing portals anywhere with a gun that shoots portals.

THAT game was made by 10 people in under two and a half years.

Portal was originally a college project in which valve noticed the work the students had done and paid them to leave college before graduating to go work for valve on portal.

I saw this last year at a Bethesda event in Utah, and since, Prey 2 has been on my radar for such a long time. I still have it pre-ordered. It has such potential to be awesome, so I hope they don't nix this or cancel it prematurely, like they did Firefly. Le sigh.

Ah, well just note that I'm a different writer at Game Revolution than Ross. :)

Prey 2 doesn't really look that much similar to the first Prey, to the point that I almost thought it should have been called something else. However, from what I saw, it was definitely one of my most anticipated games (and I rarely anticipate anything, me being the jaded critic that I am). :p

I didn't care much for the native American theme. I don't think that "made" the game really. I was just shocked that it DIDN'T have the theme. They are changing this game so much, but hopefully for the better.

NNOO!! YESSS!! Can't tell if this is good or bad. Should the game just be silently snuffed out of existence and put out of its misery, or continue being developed? This series has suffered more than Duke Nukem, StarCraft, Diablo, and HL2 combined.
